Anyone Still Gaming just for the Fun of it?
« on: May 15, 2024, 07:10:55 PM »
For most of the big guys I know, one stand out hobby they have is playing video games. Some say it helps them escape problems. They seek companionship and relief with the virtual engagement that gaming offers them.

Meanwhile there's excitement for crypto enthusiasts with the innovation of blockchain gaming and its play-to-earn features where users earn in-game crypto currency which are converted into fiat. For instance, Engines of Fury and other gaming projects have seen where tokens are rewarded as a bonus to users.

With popular gaming projects like Sandbox, Gods Unchained, Axie Infinity, Decentraland, I've been wondering if there are people who simply play virtual games just for the fun of it with no interest in getting rewards in crypto that could be converted to cash.

When these projects advertise/promote, their main talking point is the ability to earn some cryptocurrencies. That is why I don't expect them to attract passionate gamers who truly enjoys the game. I personally would not waste time with these P2E just for the sake of fun. Maybe some kids, who do not ha a real concept of money, will do.

Really? Then we must be seeing things differently here. I see the ability to earn some cryptocurrency by playing games simply as the reward for being a passionate gamer. Just like in soccer for instance, the vibe incites predictions and fans & players can bet on different categories which serves as a motivation for the game. Like in Engines of Fury for instance, gamers who have earned some tokens $FURY would always want to support the game or platform development so that the tokens they accumulated can be valuable. Now CEX like Bitget and a few others have listed the token bringing more exposure to the game itself. Or what would you say about that?

The things you mentioned could become a reality during this bullrun, when GameFi projects can provide truly fun and rewarding games. It would be great if we had AAA games on the blockchain and developers didn't have to go to great lengths to use anti-cheat methods. I really look forward to playing Pokemon Go on the Immutable or Ronin blockchain in the future to own my Pikachu NFT ^^

However, for now, GameFi projects are still only attracting players based on Earn, not Play. Axie has AXS and SLP tokens, both of which have terrible tokenomics, other games are the same but still attracted players during the bullrun and then disappeared in the crypto winter. Some games are Free-to-play but they are not really attractive. They are all boring games that cannot compete with traditional games on the market.

By passionate gamers, I mean those who play not because of the rewards and I also include those who do not see the value of their time as part of that group. I see no point playing for two hours or more and earn some tokens with little value when I can do something else that would pay more.

Some might stay but most of those you mentioned that would always want to support the game would likely disappear or lay low when the market goes south.

Exchanges listing gaming tokens means nothing because they can always delist that when volume gets low. They are simply for business and would not really care about the game when it no longer helps with their interest.

         -    If you're not a gamer, it's probably a waste of time when you try, but for gamers, it's precious time because it brings them great satisfaction. Because their passion is here. Especially if it also provides a source of income to them in a way that they know.

But for others, even if they don't get any money from it, as long as it's important to be happy, it's fine with them; that's because of the addiction that also exists in their personality. This is the thing that I also notice in them sometimes.

        -   I still play games when I want to relax on a day when I want to just rest, or what they call a day, even though I'm not an employee. Sometimes it also helps me to somehow relieve myself. But I can't really be called a gamer at all.

Maybe before the Mir4 was new, that was also related to crypto at that time because I was grinding in these games almost daily, but when the trend fell and it was hyped, I gradually stopped, and just once I also wanted to play it.

Generally, NFT games or any games related to cryptocurrency are not that interesting to play (for me), unless they are just to earn money. Maybe this also influences everyone's different tastes, but there was only one game that really interested me a few years ago, namely Mir4. This game also integrates NFTs and also exchanges cryptocurrency directly from farming resources in the game.

The Axie Infinity game once took the NFT world by storm, but it turned out to be just hype and the hype will definitely not last much longer. It's a different story, if maybe a developer like SUPERCELL or maybe MOONTOON created an NFT-based game, there would definitely be lots of big opportunities that could be exploited in the world of Cryptocurrency games & NFTs in the longer term.

When P2E games appeared, they were quite successful and shocked the gaming world because they could make extraordinary profits in crypto.
But as time goes by, P2E games are also not very popular now and most of these games do not generate profits according to the capital spent.

People just go back to focusing on the usual games and many streamers are playing games for fun and some of them are also game ambassadors so they get paid directly from the vendors.

Several integrations of games with blockchain also help current games develop well, incentivizing players with predetermined missions.
P2E games are still not popular anymore, but there are still many opportunities for P2E games to develop their games to be better and become a successful P2E gaming platform.

Mainly because it's to rally P2E and more like P2W2W (pay to work to earn)!
Their main problem is that you need to first buy into your participation, get some kitties or axies or land or something like that, then there is this repetitive task in which you can get paid for but only in said tokens and those tokens won't have any value unless there are more people buying in which really brings us close to a ponzi scheme in the payment structure, or if not outright Ponzi them clearly a MLM pyramid.

Hahaha I hate to hear Ponzi and MLM, it's just a waste of time and will only harm others, while those above them will benefit more and there is no fair system.

About P2W2W or whatever it is, in the end it won't get a consistent income, I once bought some NFT games for $5k and at first it looked like it was making more, but when the Bears arrived and the crypto price was destroyed, everything was abandoned including the P2E project I was playing.
In the end, they didn't gain anything and a -95% loss that could not be expected to bounce back.

From there I began to learn, that those who enter early must also leave early because it is not good to continue to survive on a P2E platform that is still unclear and will only be abandoned in the end.

I agree, that some gamers, will be more encouraged to play because of the goal and rewards they will have fun playing P2E games but not for the fun of it because there is a major difference between playing games and P2E games playing P2E games makes them more serious because of real money.

There are different peripherals of games and so also their features differs.

So if you mean prediction games there I am fully gaming for profits but if it is one of the graphic gaming programs which offers displays features of the players of course I will be in for fun but if I must pay for an entry pay the. I would have some tastes of rewards of profits.
