US wants to know bitcoin electricity usage in the country
« on: February 02, 2024, 04:23:36 PM »
I first saw it in Twitter:

BREAKING:  The Biden Administration has issued an "emergency" data collection initiative to identify the electricity usage of the #Bitcoin mining industry in USA

Then I saw it on the news: https://cointelegraph.com/news/us-crypto-mining-electricity-survey-energy-department

It is a six month mandatory survey.

Let us hope these people are not trying to come up with something.

Pretty normal!
It's the EIA, the U.S. Energy Information Administration after all, they are doing their job!

At average numbers Foundry (which only deals with US miners) has about at least 30Twh of mining machine pointing words their pool so don't you think people should start to know what's the deal with it? The moment you have the same consumption of a sector on par with Denmark, should we hide it?

It always amazes me how we have the saying about "don't trust, verify" but god forbid we should know the truth when it's inconvenient!
Miners are a business, they burn electricity and thy make a profit, why should they get special treatment while farmers or actual miners or any other energy intensive business has to go through all these steps also?

I think that it is normal for a president to be able to collect various data regarding the crypto mining industry in his country, which includes data regarding electricity usage, taxes, etc. This is necessary for the president to be able to see how the crypto mining industry affects electricity use in their country and what is the most appropriate action regarding this. It's possible that the US government is thinking about ways for the crypto mining industry to use electricity from renewable energy or something else, so there's no need to worry too much about this.

The government wants to know about it, even if for no clear reason. A lot has been said about this.

Hmm, interesting.

But don't worry there won't be anything unexpected, on the same time if they want to impose some kind of extra taxation on the utility of the energy for the Bitcoin network, I'm sure Minners can take it based on their output generation from the network at least in the Bull-Run they won't oppose it on a higher end, for the rest lets wait.

I am so sure this Biden administration is planning something with Bitcoin mining and this can be the springboard that they will use to maybe convince people that Bitcoin mining is bad for the environment primarily because of the high energy requirement regardless of the sources of the energy utilized. People under Biden are not really friendly to the whole cryptocurrency industry  as those in the left do not like the idea that something can't be controlled like Bitcoin. These bureaucrats are antagonistic towards Bitcoin and cryptocurrency and they are now focusing their eyes on BTC mining either to make things a lot stricter or to wean the country from this activity altogether. That is why I prefer Trump to be the next president of USA as things were a lot better during his term.

This guy?

Biden might be against it but Trump could go all the way and make a Trumpcoin and promote that instead of Bitcoin if there is enough revenue to be gained for. Plus, the whole thing is the Congress business and when it comes to senators you have both bitcoin haters and crypto enthusiasts in both parties, like this bill:
