This I wish to own some of these coins, can I get some by mining?

No, you can't because EOS is a token ERC-20 and not a coin.

Only coins are extracted, which were separated from bitcoin as a result of hard forks. EOS was released as a result of the ICO on the ethereum platform, is a token and therefore can not be obtained. The EOS tokens are released in a limited number and this process is final.

Mining seems to be a thing of the past with a lot of these tokens..   People are falling in love with proof of stake, proof of deligated stake, SR elections.. etc.. A lot of people view mining as a waste of power and want faster transaction times, so decentralization is slowly dying.  I hope this won't be a big mistake a few years from now.

You can not mine EOS but you can get EOS coin with to be voting on the block producers and you will get EOS coin for it

and even say, if you have already passed such a conversation, can I earn a coin without investment? other than mining?
