Bitcoin historian creates lore website tracking memes

Blockstream’s marketing and communications director Fernando Nikolić has created a new website to track some of Bitcoin’s most popular memes and lore. At launch, Know Your Bitcoin Meme displays a gallery of a few thousand viral images and attributes them to X (formerly Twitter) users.

“Culture drives change, and memes change culture,” said Nikolić in a statement to Protos. “Bitcoin’s history is written in memes and will continue to do so. So I felt compelled to create this ‘Great Library of Alexandria’ on the web as a nod to the culture and give everyone access to contribute to it.”... Read more here.


I checked the website briefly, but it's very clear the website is still in early stage. Using it's search feature, i couldn't find meme related with doge or classic "magic internet money" either. So at this stage, i feel this website is just Bitcoin meme crawler from social media. In case you're wondering why i didn't share this news on "Bitcoin News & Updates" board, it's because the website show some non-Bitcoin memes. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

I thought the site focused on the past, as searching for memes from 2010 is more difficult, and they are part of the history of Bitcoin, but most of them are from 2023, which is easy to find. I also did not like the UI, but it is funny to see some of the images.
I'm surprised that one of the most famous memes doesn't exist.

I'm not familiar with the latest meme though, but in any case, it's good to see those kinds of memes that made Bitcoin famous throughout the years.

That website is quite new as of this stage and it may take sometime before we may see it becoming stable. I have visited the site myself and it's not functional yet and most images are broken on that site.

I also experience same problem today, even though it didn't happen when i create this thread. I would speculate it's caused due to high traffic or bug within the website itself.

Same here, the main page shows just few images while I have to open each memes to view them properly. Went through the website and it's looking fine and simple but really need some improvement and designs to make it look cooler.

The idea of the site is beautiful, but it needs a lot of work and modifications to become acceptable. There are many historical memes that must be added to enrich the site.

The problem with the site is that there are a lot of pictures that do not load, but when I click on them, it gives me a link to the X platform and I can view them from there. These pictures need to be fixed.

I expect that it will get better with time, especially if users are allowed to add their photos to the site. Perhaps there are many who have old memes that they keep.

It loads just fine on my end right now, but it seems anyone can add new pictures. How would it filter which are memes and just pictures uploaded by one guy that doesn't even get 100 views? Clicking the meme just brings the upload details and nothing more, so there's no report button or something similar. It really feels like a website to showcase user-generated art instead of a wiki. CMIIW.

We nominate this to be part of the library this is one of the earliest memes of Bitooin that I stumble
hopefully, it gets in as it deserves to be a place here.

We are riding in the meme trend and this will further promote the popularity of Bitcoin I'm sure many popular Cryptocurrencies will have their library of memes dedicated to their beloved Cryptocurrency.

Thanks for sharing this website with us, as I have joined some meme groups on Telegrams as well but viewing on Telegram groups is not so enjoyable, speaking of website it can have a more user-friendly user interface to make your time more enjoyable but still it works fine besides I have to use VPN as it is getting images directly from twitter via some API i guess and twitter is ban in our country due to political pressure.

Besides its a good thing to have such a website I have bookmarked it and will use it in the future. Even if it's in the testing phase, (as the search not working) it still works as I don't remember the names of memes as you did. BTW I liked the quote that Nikolić said although it's a bit confusing too. As how can memes can change culture? Sometimes in the hype of getting fame people start to follow a trend shown in the meme can thus the mind set unintentionally changes accordingly I think that's how right.

You can change your DNS or use DNS encryption too in the future, especially if you don't have access to a good VPN. It is quite easy to set up and there is open-source software for that, some browsers have options to change DNS too if you don't want to download anything. I don't think they will fix it since it is a problem on Twitter's end, or more accurately your country's ISP. CMIIW.

Hmm I did not think of an alternative method to unlock restricted sites, but I will give DNS a try if it will work, I tries to search some articles on it, but nothing handy came up, but I have a video tutorial in mind, shared by a local airdrop influencer on his TG group, I did saw that video but did not tried the method because I afraid to lose my account. But VPN is also doing the same so I think changing the DNS or other settings might not affect my account at all.

But still thanks for bringing this in front, as I was not thinking of an alternative while I should, the thing is, twitter is working on some networks, like here we have PTCL, and it works on some networks, even it works on my devices sometimes without the VPN but mostly I have to use VPN.

You are right, DNS is not a good option if the government decides to take strict actions against those who change it to access Twitter. The best option is to use a platform that could also provide encryption on traffic and hide my actual location. But before writing the first post on this thread I did not have a good VPN now I have my hands on a Paid version of a VPN which is a good thing.

But I also found some alternative ways to access Twitter for example I came to know we can set proxies in our twitter account (in the app). But one proxy works for me only one time, like when I turned on the VPN that proxy don't worked afterwards.
