Crypto Cards: Convenience or Curiosity?
« on: January 02, 2024, 07:22:02 PM »
Cryptocurrency adoption has been steadily increasing, and one way people are integrating it into their daily lives is through crypto credit cards. These cards essentially bridge the gap between digital assets and traditional spending, allowing you to use your crypto holdings for everyday purchases. Credit cards from major exchanges like Bitget and Coinbase offers a unique way to spend your crypto without needing to convert it to fiat first. But are they worth it?

Crypto cards work like traditional credit cards, but instead of charging your purchases to a bank account, they take it from your crypto holdings. This can be beneficial for several reasons. Like you earn rewards in the form of crypto cashback or points, essentially adding a passive earning layer to your spending.

So, what crypto card do you use? And how has it benefited you?

Haven't used a crypto card before, but I'm hoping to explore the option. If you were to give a suggestion, which one would you advise I use?

You should explore a lot around here. You know they're quite useful for offline/online stuff or shopping. Currently I'm waiting for Bitget to launch their card to public, so I'll get myself one physically.

You can check into it if you wanna really use credit card. It's up to you though.

Beneficial for several reasons? I don't seem to see that, dude. Can you please clarify what you are saying here? Like before, you're just hyping. Also, I don't have a crypto card in use so far.

But I've seen many crypto cards before that seem to be the same as debit cards, and I haven't heard or watched on YouTube that other crypto cards have given good benefits. Does anyone know something like that?

It may not necessarily be under his control to use it like me I have not use any crypto debit card offline and not that I don't want but  there have not been much adoption of such in my country while I have done some online transactions paying with crypto.

To me it's beneficial in that as a crypto enthusiast you would want to use cryptocurrency in almost (if not) everything you do and seeing and seeing such adoption is unique aside from the fact that you don't need to convert your coins to fiat before using them

The idea of Crypto Bank was very popular in 2017 because many people want crypto to replace traditional banks. Of course, the idea of issuing crypto cards to use as an alternative to fiat cards is also being implemented, but I have not seen any successful projects.

Some issues that we need to pay attention to:
+ Onchain transaction fees are often very high if using BTC or ETH.
+ Owner authentication for each card will come with personal information and private keys revealed.
+ Most businesses have not accepted crypto.

Perhaps we need more time to be able to use crypto in payment. I think right now, crypto is almost like stocks: crypto is an investment, not a popular means of payment in current economy.

Credit cards from major exchanges like Bitget and Coinbase offers a unique way to spend your crypto without needing to convert it to fiat first. But are they worth it?

I have little experience of using Binance and Crypto.com crypto cards and they also have option of a direct payment in crypto for fiat without previous convert. But in reality this option never worked on Binance. You top-up your card with crypto, and during terminal payment or atm usage, nothing happens. Support say that it has to work automatically, but it does not work.

With crypto.com it works, but it does not use exchange rate which is at the moment of fiat payment. It converts in weird way also. For example yesterday Bitcoin exchange rate was around 41k EUR, at the moment I try to top-up my card, it shows that BTC current price is ~40,200 EUR. Not very profitable. During convert crypto>fiat, crypto.com does not use exchange rate that is used during trading at the moment, it uses exchange rate that was several (not 1 or 2) hours ago, and it is always lower than current trading price.

I heard about crypto cards first time but it sounds really amazing as it's like a one for all thing. Not only able to use it for multiple type of purchase, but also a business tool too. Going to try it and will comeback with review..

Crypto cards can be useful but they can also be very risky, I would never keep larger amount of coins there.
I used and tested few crypto virtual cards but I used them only for smaller purchases.

Few days ago I watched interesting documentary movie called Bitconned, and I recommend everyone to watch it.
This scammers tricked a lot of people and earned millions selling worthless centra tokens for  their Centra card.
Check out Bitconned movie trailer and learn something
  ;)

All payments can actually be made with cryptocurrency, but currently only a few commodities accept payments using cryptocurrency, meaning that not all sectors accept cryptocurrency as a valid payment because cryptocurrency price movements are very fluctuating, making many traders perhaps still consider accepting cryptocurrency payments.

Also I would like to point out that no one should 100% rely on a crypto card and use it as only or primary card. I have tried using my Binance card in Spain, and after about 5 fails to make a payment in EUR (which were previously converted, I wasnt paying directly with crypto) in different places, I have dropped that idea and switch to regular card. Even though on Binance page it was mentioned that the card must work on all territory of Europe (including Spain).
