Of course it's very risky, it even more risky than buying a coin at the ATH, it's risky because 90% of all the new coins I come across lately, are all scam coins then the remaining 10% don't always deliver when they get to the market instead they dump, I would rather invest in top established coins than invest in most new projects nowadays, the risk of losing my capital is just too high.

if course, new coin is more risky than old coin. But new coin is also more potential and more profitable than old coin. So I think It depends on you, You can choose what coin do you prefer to invest.
