Preventive measures not to lose your btc

I have read lot of stories about recent ways hackers are wilding themselves to steal people's funds.
I will have to list few preventive measures to avoid being scammed maybe you could help add yours here to enable newbies learned and hold their bitcoin tight.

1. Do not engage in deep conversation with stranger who is only interested asking you about your total bitcoin holding or even regularly asking you about the platform you invested.

2. Do not be fooled with their sweet words where they keeps asking you to invest and make money your interest within 24hrs to gain about 100 percent of your investment. Note; this is purely scam otherwise no other investment platform or anyone to be trading and giving you back 100 percent of your capitals.

3. Sets your telegram account where someone from same group can't contact you because telegram is the head of scammers, they can clone or impersonate someone you know and scam you without the knowledge of the real person.

4. Do not be carried away with signup and referral bonuses, there are some people who are always thrilled with that in fact they hunt for that and sometimes they go meet the wrong site where they site would asked them to deposit some specific amount. Please newbie be warned do not be desperate to own some units of useless tokens whereby risking yourself.

5. Do not connect your wallet directly to any site you are not sure of otherwise you could be piped. The best advise is to always make a new wallet and send few gas fee to that wallet and keep your real wallet secure and safe from alteration.

6. Do not create account in any website with the same password you used in another website that is so important to you, lets for example altcointalk and other forum do not use same password you never can tell what would happened since you don't control the platform by yourself. It's important to always use separate passwords.

7. Do not tell anyone how much is your investment or what year have you started holding bitcoin, such types of discussion often exposes' you to hackers, they don't mind using any forms of techniques to scam you since they have gain little information about you through discussion that is why it's advisable to avoid some sensitive discussions about oneself.  Keep in mind that you don't have to involve yourself with any discussion about when you join altcointalk or when and how long have you hold bitcoin probably what year. What I noticed is that most people often use this answers as secrete question / answer whereby you won't know when you are giving them this vital information from then your account could be hacked.

8. Do not memorized your seed phrase or private key or even store it where someone that knowns about what you are doing. Possibly avoid someone peeping through your phone and device while at home or office, there could be some spy camera watching over you.

Thank you for the correction maybe people will understand more better the way you listed it, but still they can still grasp it when user is determined to learn I don't see anything difficulty for a user not to understand what I have just put down there, except that person is a lazy user were s/he doesn't develop the habits of reading and wanting everything to be so simple to them.

We've also heard reports of people loosing their Bitcoin to fake wallets. This mostly happens to newbies and novices who are new to crypto and don't have the adequate knowledge about Bitcoin, maybe they hear about Bitcoin or read about it online and then developed interest to be a part of it. And then they forget that choosing a wallet to hold your Bitcoin is one the most important things and factor to consider when starting your crypto journey, because there are so many scam wallets out there, scammers even go as far as duplicating popular wallets just to make naive Bitcoiners to fall prey and when this eventually happens, you end up loosing your Bitcoin.

The world of cryptocurrency is also the world of scammers, hackers, fraudsters and the likes and these evil people are here because just like sharks from afar they can smell the blood - or money which this industry is generating and since this is online a hacker can be located somewhere in North Korea and his victim can be somewhere in the Philippines. In other words, there is a huge market for scammers and they are just waiting for us to commit a slight mistake so they can take advantage of them and we lose our money or coins. In fact, scamming and hacking are now very lucrative enterprises and people behind these operations are using the best technological tools one can find and they are trained on the best ways to entice and entrap people into their lair. I am sure many of this forum are also victims of scams, hacks or similar traps before...and that feeling of being victimized is really unforgivable. We have to learn to protect ourselves from these people and the tactics they are employing so we don't caught with their cobwebs.

Maybe if you say it as "only" memorizing and not making another back-up, yes definitely, but trying to learn by heart those words  on top of a hard back-up copy is not really posing any security risks. If some gang is willing to risk all and kidnap you they could simply torture you till you reveal the location of your keys anyhow  plus they would have no clue if you know the seed or not!

But in most cases, I would say that it all comes down to using common sense, after all bitcoin is money, all the ways in which you can lose your coins are also ways in which you lose fiat, so shouldn't really be rocket science!

I was asking what the disadvantage of trying to memorize it, not what the risk if you rely only on it!
If you have 4 back-ups already what's wrong in also trying to learn it if case all four end up in flames/sea/broken/lost ?

Instead of waiting for something to happen, we need to be proactive. If we think that we will make our wallet more secure when money is lost from our wallet, then that security will not help us at all. Investing in Bitcoin is easy but holding and protecting that investment is much harder. You invested and bought one btc if you share this news with everyone then you will see that people close to you will try to harm you, because there is no need to tell anyone about these things if people know about my investment and they can harm my investment. You should always keep your investment confidential so that no one can harm your investment. Scammers with a purpose will not be deterred by a person's lack of knowledge of the seed-phrase. If the amount is significant, they will resort to torture until the person reveals the seed-phrase or stops breathing.

Hmm... maybe some unexpected techniques to secure your seed are the way to go. Yeah, just stash it in the most secretive locker you have in physical writing form. For security purposes, make sure there's someone you trust who knows all your secrets, ensuring your will can be properly conveyed, including your assets to be utilized by the person you choose. It could be your child, spouse, or someone closest to you.

I had a bad experience storing seeds and keys online. It happened around 2022 when all my balances were hacked by someone. Maybe the amount wasn't huge, but it was money I'd gathered for 2 months and hadn't withdrawn because I wanted to use it when it reached a certain amount.

These are guides and rules we must abide by if we want to enjoy the crypto space. Guide number eight is one of the most important and vital rules. Some people feel very smart, thereby trying to memorize their seed phrase or private key, which might later leave them stranded when they can't remember it. In addition, saving your seed phrase or private key as a text or image on your device is considered insecure. This is why most software wallets don't allow users to take screenshots while receiving their seed phrase.

In the aspect of connecting a wallet address to unknown websites, it mainly affects those who are after airdrops. There should be a separate wallet for airdrop projects and personal funds.

Yeah it is hard and risky to memorize seed phrases most especially if you have a 24 words set on your wallet. I don't personally choose this way of safe keeping my keys because it is prone to errors. The odds of not recovering lost keys when you memorized it all is for me very high and is inevitable. So better wrote it on a piece of paper then put it into a fireproof and weather proof container. It can also protect you from prying eyes but of course we have to stay low key.
