Title: The new 419 Scam and airdrop donations
Post by: sw1911 on November 21, 2017, 03:17:27 PM
Folks, stop sending money to airdrops.  it's the new nigerian 419 scam.  if you dont know what it is, it's when you get unsolicited emails claiming random stuff like you've won the lottery, receive a grant, dead uncle will, or my personal favorites --prince moonboogowooga wants to invest money and host of other b.s. unsolicited emails.  they than ask you in order to receive your money, usually a very large sum with bunch of zero's behind the number, you need to wire transfer them $50 bucks to pay for the release form from the head office of moonvboogawooga or some other b.s. and than they will send you the money but only after you wire transfer them $50 bucks.  Its a very common nigerian scam if you've never heard about it, go search 419eater on google.
you see the pattern with these new airdrops popping up with no whitepaper, no website, broken english forms, but some fancy name like gold4gold, goldether or some other b.s. catchy name?  send .005 ether to receive your 1000000 coins that will go to the moon!  think about it before you decide to send eth.  and think about what you're posting in here cause you're enabling them if you post their google forms.  anyone can create a google form and ask for donations.

Thanks for that post. I just would like to add one tiny point:

Never ever give out the private key to your wallet. When you be asked for it in connection with free money, coins, token or airdrops it's going to be free money for the fraudster who gets your private key only. There is no legit reason whatsoever to give your private key / mnemonic phrase to anyone. No matter what they promise you.

i think that the airdrop shouldn't be done if you don't have money for the gas. period. and that's my principle, never send a cent

Never ever give out the private key to your wallet.
And be careful because the private key is very vulnerable to use.
Have you followed a bounty that requires connecting to Metamask or other applications?
I make sure not to do something like that because it's very dangerous.
