Difference #1 – Backers
NEO is backed by the Chinese government. This has become the most important factor for NEO’s popularity in China, making it China’s first open-source public blockchain project. NEO is also backed by WINGS, Alibaba, and various Microsoft-like giants.
Ethereum is not backed by any nation’s government, but it is supported by the EEA-Enterprise Ethereum Alliance. This speaks volumes about its popularity and potential success on the world’s stage.

Difference #2 – Consensus mechanism
NEO uses a delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerant (aka dBFT) consensus mechanism, which is an improved form of proof-of-stake.
Ethereum uses a proof-of-work mechanism.
dBFT is believed to be more energy efficient than proof-of-work, as POW is a very energy-intensive and expensive. But I don’t see this as a big advantage for NEO because we can eventually expect Ethereum to move to an efficient proof-of-stake mechanism.

Difference #3 – Divisibility
The native crypto-fuel of NEO’s blockchain is not divisible. It only exists in whole numbers (1,2,50,1000, etc.).

Difference #4 – Fueling the blockchain
NEO produces a special crypto asset called NeoGAS (or GAS) which is used as a crypto-fuel for NEO’s blockchain.
In Ethereum, small units of Ether are used as “gas” to fuel the network.

Difference #5 – Language
NEO’s smart contracts and DApps can be written and compiled in C# and Java. In the future, developers will also be able to write smart contracts in Python and Go. This will drastically reduce the entry barrier for all developers around the world.
Currently, if you want to write smart contracts and DApps on Ethereum, then you have to learn a new programming language called Solidity. Very few people know this language.

Difference #6 – Direction
NEO is focused on making a smart economy by digitizing traditional real-world assets via digital identity, along with running smart contracts and DApps.
Ethereum is going in the direction of becoming the world’s only supercomputer based on the blockchain by hosting numerous use cases of digital identity, computing, decentralized exchanges, remittances, and KYC (to name a few).

Difference #7 – the International audience
There isn’t much information available about NEO for the English-reading audience due to its Chinese roots.
Ethereum is already a global enterprise which fully caters to its international (and English-reading) audience.

Few months ago: You might have noticed how the network hashrate of Monero and other CryptoNote coins raised immensely after ASICs came into play. Many think that the greater the hashpower leads to more safer and secure network. True, but in addition to that; distribution of hashpower is what really determines the security of the network. ASICs leads to mining centralization and any single entity controlling a vast amount of hashpower is really bad for cryptocurrency. To combat centralization threats and to allow egalitarian mining Monero (XMR) changes its PoW algorithm every 6 months.

Previously to eliminate Antminer X3 and other ASIC miners from the network Monero changed its PoW algorithm from CryptoNight to CryptoNight V7 (CNv1). Now the war against ASIC continues: To further solidify ASIC resistance Monero is upgrading its network. This hard fork introduces new PoW algorithm (CryptoNight V8 – CN variant 2) along with few other major changes to the Monero protocol. At block height 1685555 the network upgrade is planned which is expected to take place on October 18th 2018.

If you are mining Monero then update your miners. Also do not forget to update your wallet software. Below we’ve listed all v8 compatible miners along with the list of mining pools that are ready for the upgrade. Now before you update your software’s here are few key points about the upcoming v8 hard fork and CryptoNight v2 algorithm.

Monero 0.13.0 “Beryllium Bullet” upgrade (v8 Hardfork)
This upcoming update is bringing in major improvements to the Monero protocol. The release version 0.13.0 of the Monero software includes the following three significant features.

1. Bulletproofs: It is the most important feature that gets enabled in version 8 and with v9 bulletproofs will become mandatory. This is a new form of range proofs and this feature significantly reduces transaction size, fees (by approximately 80%) and verification time.

2. New PoW algorithm: To improve ASIC resistance Monero will be using a new Proof of Work algorithm called CryptoNight V2. This algorithm contains 2 modifications and more information and discussion about this algorithm can be found here. Both the #DevelopmentTeam  and the community have tested this new algorithm thoroughly.

Compared to current Monero’s PoW algorithm (CNv1) there is a 5% to 10% reduction in hashrate on CNv2. Anyways it’s still a good news because it breaks any existing ASICs and makes new ASIC even more expensive to build

Ripple News & Updates / Ripple Reveals Another Global Financial Institution Using XRP-Powered xRapid!

Ripple is building on its success and consolidating itself as the “bridge” between the blockchain ecosystem and traditional fiat money based payment processors.

During the Swell Conference, after announcing the public release of xRapid, the Ripple team commented that there were already three important global payment processors already making real use of this technology.

Such news represents a real case of global adoption, and now acquires much more importance as Ripple perhaps in a more discreet way revealed a new company that joins this list: Viamericas.

According to its website, Viamericas is a “licensed money transmitter offering international money transfer, bill payment, check processing and top-up services at thousands of agent locations across the United States, and over 76,000 locations in 29 countries for cash payout or direct deposits to bank accounts”.

Thanks to this new business partnership, Ripple consolidates itself as a much more prestigious option than any other competitor with similar characteristics.

Viamericas had already worked with Ripple for some time. Previous press releases prove that the payment processing company was experimenting with xRapid and the use of the technologies offered by Ripple, however, there was no confirmation of its official adoption.

The “announcement” simply consisted on listing the company within a Brochure published by RIpple titled “On-Demand Liquidity: Harnessing the power of XRP on RippleNet” In it, the mention of Viamericas as a company adopting xRapid is the first one on the list:
