Potentially, not every religion forbids gambling. Of course, it all depends on the person's own choice. If he has doubts that he can win, religion can be used as a reason to forbid himself from gambling, but not always.

I really don't think if the religion itself forbids gambling, I think this is mostly based on morality and societal view on gambling and fear of its negative impact on its victims.
Religious leaders have seen exactly what gambling can do to people who become addicted to it so they try to stop their followers from falling victim to gambling so some of them enact strict rules so those rules could guide their followers from indulging in gambling and risk getting addicted.

I fully with you. True change does indeed come from within and gambling is no exception. Its essential that the person has a genuine and strong desire to change. I wholeheartedly agree that self awareness is the cornerstone of meaningful and lasting transformation.

Generally, gambling has done more harm than good, because majority of gamblers suffer from one level of addiction to the  other, this is because not many people who go into gambling actually knows the main reason for gambling, they go in with the wrong perspective and that costs them a lot, so the religious leaders have already seen this as a menace to the society, so rather than making exceptions, they completely condemn the activity because they know that it requires so much to be able to resist the temptation of over gambling or overspending in gambling.

Religion can definitely influence a person but not always. No matter how much we teach a person who is addicted to gambling about religion or take him to a religious institution, I don't think it will do much good. But ‍everybody will not behave the same way. If the gambler does not know and realize the negative aspects of his addiction, nothing can turn a gambler away from his gambling addiction. But I am not completely denying that there are some people who fear religion. Therefore, they refuse to do any such work outside of religion. For those people religion will work to some extent.

I'm not sure of the scripture you are talking about but you see, Islam forbid gambling and it's there in most Arabic countries. If you watch football matches in most Arabian countries, just take a look at their ads on bill board and those ones in football pitch, you will not see a single gambling platform advertisement, they are mostly other products been advertised.

I can't speak well on the doctrine of the Christianity though but the fact that everyone plays it, I think it's allow to gamble but maybe some sub-christianity will have another objectiok regarding gambling by people.

Religion can only influence a religious person. Whatever religious beliefs one may have if one is connected with his faith and regularly performs religious practices then one can be influenced to do away with gambling. If one does not follow his faith then he can not be influenced by religion.
