Co-curated with Vastari and Christie’s Education and sponsored by Bidpoc, 2018’s inaugural conference, ‘Exploring Blockchain – Is the art world ready for consensus?’ hosted in London on 17th July which brought together thought leaders and industry experts from across sectors, this one day conference will explore the potential impacts of innovative blockchain technologies on the art world and market.

The Summit featured a stimulating mix of keynote lectures, debates and panel discussions, interspersed with short and powerful ideas based talks. Themes range from the current art world blockchain landscape to blockchain successes and pitfalls in other industries. Industry leaders Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director of the Serpentine Gallery; Ed Vaizey, Member of Parliament and former Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries; and Kati Price, Head of Digital Media of the Victoria & Albert Museum an Alex Chien, CTO of Bidpoc.

Christie’s has been constantly exploring the the power of the emerging technology as the one of the powerful and reputable name in Fine Art worl. Ms Cai Jinqing, Chairman of Christie’s China, reckoned the power of blockchain technology for the appraiser in the support of art valuation by having a comprehensive knowledge of its provenance and bringing great value to digital art.

Bipoc is the provenance service for Art project of Shanghai 9Chain technology. Principal members of Bidpoc took part in summit and have an in-depth discussion with Christie’s technology team on the shared vision to build an ecological network integrating the transaction data and how to provide detailed data query support for buyers and sellers in the auction transaction process.

Alex introduced the highlights and shared Bidpoc’s provenance service with auction house’s technology team in detail. Bidpoc digital ID and the scan-to-read encrypted NFC chip (stripped then damaged) to have access to the binding info on the blockchain of transaction records, patented image recognition HD solution to scan artworks, an analyze component contents and generate digital fingerprint, and the CIDOC-CRM and LIDO semantics specification as the library system for naming.

Bidpoc also announced its future plan in Art & Blockchain educational in London, Shanghai, Dubai to promote the integration and development of traditional art field and blockchain technology and cooperation with institution to empower art with blockchain.
