Title: Draft page
Post by: bitmover on March 10, 2024, 08:31:55 PM
I discovered today that we do not have a draft page, which should be something like this:

https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?action=drafts

When you click Preview before posting, the post should be automatically saved in drafts.

This is very useful, especially for users who put a lot of efforts in their posts.

I have seen some discussoions here, about mods that allows that:

Draft page would probably use more server resources and I am not sure it is that important if admins have limited resources.
It can be useful feature when someone is making longer posts, but it could also be written offline and saved in text document for posting later.
I think someone could even make a simple user-script doing this as alternative.

A compromise can be reached by making it free for those who click on a review button, up to 5 posts or 10, and making it part of the paid features for 100 posts or more, or even some features such as auto draft posts every x sec.

Here we are not allowed to delete our posts, which is against the idea of saving server resources. I also saw quite several outdated and useless discussions, but they are still on the server.

I think that draft posts are not crucial for the automated submission of posts. bitmover probably can give a proper answer, since he has created a bot account on Btt.

I don't think deleting of posts in forum would have any significant impact on server resources.
Even if you delete a bunch of old posts and topics they are just going to be moved to trash or archive.

Both things, draft posts or redundant garbage take place in the database. I just made a parallel about consumpting server resources. Draft posts will be deleted after 7 days, however, not all users will use this option

There is  no need to create a draft before posting  , even for bots

Drafts are only created when you click preview button. If you don't  , no draft is created.

I think it is a useful feature not only for the longer post I think it is useful for all kinds of posts. Sometimes even in short posts, you have to align the post by using many bbcodes, and it has happened to me a few times that after writing the post, the tab was closed by mistake, so I had to rearrange the post again. And It is boring and a waste of time, in this case, there is no alternative to drafting.

Before getting the script or downloading offline bbcode software people can use bitcointalk forum they just need to have a topic/post on archived board for testing.  :D

It is indeed useful. We are all sure to ourselves that sometimes we make mistakes by accidentally closing the tab or just like on my mobile device that if I slide the screen from left to right, the web page will return to the previous page. There are also other scenarios just as power outages, etc.

Having a draft page can be helpful during this scenario. However, since it is mentioned that it will use more resources, much better if we make more effort by doing our own ways to avoid this kind of scenarios for now.
