Title: [BUG] Strange avatar proportion
Post by: PX-Z on February 10, 2024, 06:33:04 PM
I noticed some members MrSpasybo, hair, Zed0X, KrryptoBull have weird avatar proportion sizes from their original form. Originally, these avatars had rectangular shapes (signature campaign avatars), but were forced to have a fixed square shape when these users wore them. The 3 of them something have in common as "Senator".

Possible reasons are;
- they are in the same group, and having that Senator icon, but won't explain @KryptoBull's side
- they can change the avatar proportion size in settings which I don't know if it's possible, i can't see it on the settings
- a bug, maybe after using the avatar's "Personalized Picture" as it's usually a square shape (although i don't have supporting details about this as i never used it before, and cannot try coz I'm currently in a campaign)

I only think this is a possible bug on the avatar's feature.

Any designer will tell you that stretched images and fonts are some of the worst thing they can see  ;D
One way of fixing this is for signature campaigns to make square shape avatar, as I saw one of the managers was complaining that avatars are already small size and not visible enough compared to other forums.
I think suare shape avatar wont get distorted and this should be easy correction in any image editor.

Here is connected topic:
Would it be possible to increase the size of the Avatar? Maybe make it on par with what Bitcointalk has [120px wide, 80px tall, and 100 KiB in size].
A bigger avatar means better exposure to any project/company that's running a signature campaign on this forum. As it stands, the current avatar is too small to be noticed.

Right? I'm not that kind of a designer but it really hurts my eyes when I see disproportion/stretched images.

It's not necessary to be a square shape. It should just be responsive and have a maximum size like in BTT which is max in 120px width and 80px in height.

That's another problem with size, but making it responsive after it was uploaded and displayed on any web page should be just fine.

Possible reasons

This happens when you use the option "Specify avatar by URL" when setting your avatar. If you use the option "Upload an avatar" the proportions stay as original picture had.

No it doesnt have to be square shaped but I think they will look smaller as rectangles.
This is different from bitcointalk forum that is using rectangle shaped maximum size.

What is the maximum size in pixels that can be used for avatars and are there any other limitations?

The size will automatically be changed up to 65x65. As for now.

Just like I thought, so this is a known bug/issue. I bet this is a very old issue, and the admin should work on this and add this to his queue (not urgent), and the request of having a slightly bigger avatar since there are campaigns that promotes on this kind of media/space.

I would increase that if possible, and I would add max image size info in profile.
Just for comparison, bitcointalk forum usually uses 120x80 size avatars.

Easy temporary fix is to just disable links when choosing avatars, I think everoyne can easily upload image they want.
