Hello everyone,
I had tons of security problems when I was a beginner. One of my exchanges got hacked, lost my 2FA code - my phone broke down etc. etc...
I want to write down some of the security stuff I use for my cryptos!
If any of you have corrections, additions or other suggestions to my safety actions, would love to hear them.
1- Never ever use an exchange without 2FA: Even the hardest passwords can get hacked easily. If you don't use 2FA you can get hacked... Yep I got hacked - my Bibox account, took hours to block the account, half of my earnings were lost. (it wasn't more than 50$, thank god...)
2- Never ever use the same password for different accounts.
Yep, I got hacked! Why? I was applying for several airdrops, you guys know that nowadays some of them require signing up to their websites. And what have I done? I used the same password and email I used for the Bibox exchange.
3- Writing down your password rather than saving them on your computer is a better idea. I have a small notebook which I keep my passwords.
I also have a word document which I save some of my private keys, it is a locked document - not so safe I know...
4- Always keep your 2FA code or barcode before scanning. If your phone breaks down, you will loose all your 2FAs... It can take 2-3 weeks to activate your exchange accounts.
5- MEW, IDEX login: I never copy and paste my private keys to login these wallets. I prefer Metamask login, not 100% secure but much better.
6- My browser preference: I don't like chrome very much. I prefer to use Brave browser to access my accounts. *It doesn't support Binance. Brave also has Metamask extension.
AND A GREAT UPDATE: Brave has it's own BAT wallet which ables you to earn while you surf. Firefox is my second choice.
7- Phising sites: I always bookmark my exchanges. Also before clicking the email links, I always check the url, I never click if it is not a "HTTPS". I also use WOT extension on Chrome to check if the link is safe or not...
8- KYC issue: I prefer not to do KYC for airdrops or bounties. If their database gets hacked, your passport can end up in Dark web. For exchanges, I always try to use my Driving License instead of my passport for KYC (some of them only accepts passport :/ )
9- For airdrops I use another email. Don't want my original email get spam mails and I want my exchange email to be safe.
These are the ones I remember so far...
Safe days you guys!

To some up this matter everyone must be aware of legit sites, safer storage with securing the private key, different passwords are safer than unilateral.

Great thread this is very useful to me specially I will get my first bounty rewards in a week. I want my bounty token rewards to be safe all the time from hackers and scammers too.

-
wahh. good way. These tips are useful for me and everyone in the crypto world. this information is very useful and hopefully many people can read this so they can secure their coins from Hackers.

I was faced some problems before.
1. I used the same password for all sites. Then the scammers got it and tried to access my gmail , airdrop, and exchanger account, really bad. I changed the password immediately, different password each site.
2. I was stored lots of my data (password, 2fa, private keys, etc) on my phone. Forgot to written it down offline. Then my phone was accidentally hard restarted.
By the way, experience is the best teacher
-
Very useful Your posts. with the information that you provide, I know the best way for security in the crypto world. Because security is the most important aspect in my opinion in this digital world.
-
I've been searching today for security tips and solutions to problems, that especially beginners might have - so thank you for this topic! :) I think when you are new to crypto you might underestimate the importance and the risks regarding security... a friend of mine was hacked once and when he heard that I'm now also into crypto he warned me... very important is of course not to use same passwords... well and other things you summed up quite well here... :)
-
I think at the end of the day, it is still your own responsibility to secure your crypto wallets. Do really get hardware crypto wallets as they are currently the safest to protect your fund.
-
I want to add to the 2FA security... Do not use Google Authenticator, if you lose your phone, it would be hard to recover, instead use Authy 2FA because even if you lose your device, with your number or email, you can easily recover everything and your accounts would be intact.
-
Thank you for this advice, I was not aware that there is such a huge world of various security threats! I use some of the tips you posted and I feel more secure now. It was sad to read your stories about being hacked. I hope that now you recover and all your investments are fine!

Incredible tips for secret phrase I utilize a scrambled document with an extremely solid secret key (it takes me over 1 moment to compose it!) I realize it's smarter to have composed on paper yet in the event that I need to login in versatility else I can't login.
-
No matter how hard we try to secure our wallets, there is still a risk that your wallet is hacked, so all operations must be done anonymously and as carefully as possible.

Great thread this is very useful to me specially I will get my first bounty rewards in a week. I want my bounty token rewards to be safe all the time from hackers and scammers too.
Yes bro pray you don’t win your prize. But you know very well how you have given your security. If your security is very strong then it will never be hacked. And if the security is normal then there is a possibility of hacking. I believe you must have used strong passwords so that your ID is not likely to be hacked.

You explained the information in a very nice way.Thank you so much bro for that. And of course there is a lot to learn from the way you gave the post.Of course, juniors can learn a lot by posting like this.
-
Nice collection of tips. I'm sorry that you encountered many security issues, that must have been tough, but it's good to see that you have overcome them and learned from them in such a productive way.

The Phishing aspect and security consciousness is one that probably continues to elude most people as it is very easy to neglect or miss in the course of our daily activities. It isn't as conspicuous as others and as such can be easily missed. Once that is done, there is a high chance that you will become vulnerable to these hacks and attacks. One has to be really careful in securing yourself and assets while using the Internet.

Thank you very much I have learned a lot from this post of yours and I have learned from all the protections. I thank you very much for explaining so beautifully.

I think I just gained something. I've never once think of it that KYC could be this bad. Thanks for the useful information and I'm personally looking forward to more of this.
-
Thank you very much for posting a very nice post. Security is definitely needed. It is not possible to work on anything without security. If you want to work on any platform and cryptocurrency, you must have one. Brother Etherium Wallet is likely to have a lot of time. And a lot of the time it gets hacked so you definitely need security to work on any platform.

Actually nice... We also need to stay clear from ponzi site, cause the level of risk is much high. Once they have access to your email they can break down your social media.

Thank you for sharing! About number 5: I'm using MEW by their applications, it's also much better than metamask or MEW website.

If you want to give a password to an account then you have to give a very good kind of password. Thank you for such a post. I agree with this post. If there is any problem, please let us know.
-
Basically, whatever the account, you will use strong passwords. And keep them in a good place. If you have a wallet, keep your password and backup safe so no one can see it. And write them down nicely in a notebook so that you can save them even if you forget them one day.
-
Two-factor coding makes it easy to secure your ID. If someone logs in your ID, it will send you a code. If they can't input that code, then the ID will not be logged. Of course, I think it is better to give two-factor coding security in each ID.
-
He gave the security tips in a very nice way. We know that no matter how strong the password is, it is still possible for hackers to hack any exchange. We need to keep our passwords strong at all times.

Yeah. I really love the 2FA but some exchanges doesn't support that though. In bithumb you have to use google authentication which has been giving me problem and unable to access my assets

This is a great and unique topic, I must say you have given us the essential security tips we need to keep our valuables safe in crypto, in this present times hackers and scammers are doing all there can to get rid of funds so it's our duty to always protect what we have in crypto, and to be sincere with this tips I think our funds are secured.
-
Thank you so much for giving me such an awareness-raising topic. We wallet any but occasionally forget its password or backup. In fact, it is because of such mistakes that many of our dollars are stuck when we can't pick them up. Almost everyone will get this idea from your topic and everyone will keep the password and backup of all the colleges safe.

Thank you so much for giving so many nice posts about security. I agree with you on the topic you have created with Security VOS. Whatever we do, we need to save our passwords and backups. Basically, we can see that a lot of things with good security are being hacked, but we still have to be careful.

This is a very powerful heads up, an information that cam save your earnings/money in this crypto space, and if under looked, the negative results will be convincing, then actions will be taken to protect your online accounts. I will say this doesn't work, but with experience that I have gotten, one needs to apply every needful security system to avoid being hacked. Security Safety is very important in any internet business, so, protect yourself as securely possible as you can. No one wants to do the heavy work, and someone comes to take out everything.
-
Thank you for explaining this! Saving a password online is the craziest thing that we should never do! I am sorry to say but there are browsers that are not safe enough to protect your passwords which you have saved online! So it may be a little easy for a scammer to get it and still your money.

Good post with useful information.. good point also with the KYC liscense vs passport.. awarding you karma, hope to see more posts like this.

This same thing is also happened with me because I had set a same password of many different accounts and I was get hacked and I lose my all amount and after that I start setting different and difficult password and like this now my accounts are saved.
-
Thanks, dear, you have provided very good information. When I was a beginner I do the same mistakes and lose my money and data. When we are new to some platform then we know how to work in it or what are the rules of that platform slowly we understand everything.
-
My fate is almost the same as yours. I have been hacked. and that was very detrimental to myself, and now I am starting to use security in doing this business. And your tips are very useful for me, and I can use them to secure my account. thank you for the information you provide.
-
You actually wrote a very important and necessary post. One point is new information for me. Nobody wants to lose their assets, so you always need to be careful when working with a cryptо.
-
I think when you are new to crypto you might underestimate the importance and the risks regarding security... a friend of mine was hacked once and when he heard that I'm now also into crypto he warned me... very important is of course not to use same passwords..
-
I'm currently doing researches about data privacy and there are some projects that works on it. For example Itheum is working on it and kills it. I believe major firms needs to stop collecting user's data for personal ADS.. It is mean tbh.. I believe if Itheum change it,everyone will be a lot safer! peace.

Yes, using same password is very much risky. Scammers are trying to use these strategy.

This is great and informative post for all crypto users because every one got there reward in there wallets, if there wallet is non-secure then this is a chance for hacked and we will loss our assets..

For examples, Oracle protocols are very necessary for blockchain. They're making blockchain more secure imo. I've been following SupraOracles for a while and they have some serious partnerships like MasterCard and SigmaDEX. You could check

Different perspective of security. I like the idea behind SupraOracles and I may need to read whitepaper first. It seems pretty interesting.

The best thing to do is to back up with a (USB) storage device any important files just in case hackers and viruses will attack in our systems.
Your tips of advise was good, but there is leak problem with it dude.Saving it in the usb is nice but once you misplace your usb or you forget where you put in all your important files and backup will gone or be like a bubble.

This is informative post for all crypto users because everyone want to safe there assets and i think this help alot , there are too many scammers and hackers who want to hack your assets , just avoid for clicking links and sharing your account info
