A Gambling addicted friend of mine borrowed $80 from Point of Sale (POS) girl and used it to gamble thinking that he would win and pay back the money with interest but ironically the money lost for the gambling and when it is time to pay back the money, there was no money to pay back again and he ran to me to give him loan and he game me his mobile phone ( Tecno Spark 10) as collateral, and took the phone and gave the money. And early in the morning, the following day, he come again that he wants to sell his solar system so he can used the money to settle some debt. And I bought it from him as a cheaper price. And I was not comfortable with it so I called him to come in the evening and asked why he sold the solar and he told me that he sold it to pay some gambling debt. And I gave him some advice. And we depart.
What do you think this guy should do to stop this habit because I have tried my best to stop him but no way. You input is needed.

Perhaps as a friend you tell him that his gambling addiction is out of control and that you can only help him at a certain extend and not all the time that you have extra money to give to him even if he has collateral to show you.

Of course, it might hurt him if you tell him that he is addicted, but at least you have the decency to tell him in front of his face before everything goes haywire on his side and who knows what will your friend turn out in the future.

You need to stop lending or buying things from him, and tell him he need to stop and go for medications for being gambling addict before its too late it might be harsh to listen on his point of view but you need to tell him. His life will be destroyed when things get worst.

Yes he is 100% addicted to it and he is working with a construction company which they are paying him $40 monthly though he is minor worker in the company and the money he is using to gamble a week is much more than the money he is receiving as a monthly salary. And upon doing something else in the construction company, he is still busy gambling whenever he is back from work and once he is back from the next thing to do is to visit the casino hall. Though I am trying my best to speak with him and give him some advise to quit gambling. Gambling is really eating deep the life of the boy.
Wow, so you're telling me he has a family and makes only $40/month yet he gambles more? That is seriously dangerous for his well-being and family. I'd suggest you take him to professional help ASAP or just force him to stop gambling altogether. How did he fulfill his family's needs with that much money though? Is he asking for a loan whenever he can? I fear that he will end with a bad ending if he doesn't make any changes in his life. This issue needs immediate action and input from a real psychologist or any expert instead of some random people on the internet.

Or much better if his family had taken immediate action against his gambling addiction. A monthly salary of $40 is insufficient to cover anyone's expenses nowadays. It would barely last for a few days. Moreover, even if he can manage his expenses using this amount of money, being tempted to gamble with the remaining small amount of money they have is not the right thing to do.

Borrowing money is not a good thing, if you borrow money from someone and don't pay it back on time, the relationship is ruined. Gambling and the future of gambling is totally uncertain so if a gambler thinks that he will gamble by borrowing money and by gambling he will make money and then he will repay the loan then I would say he is living in a fool's kingdom. Where gambling is considered the most risky, it is nothing but foolish to borrow money, gamble it away, and then pay it back at a profit. If you have financial solvency, you can gamble with some amount of money, but the aim is not to earn extra money. Gambling is okay if the purpose is for fun or enjoyment.

Unfortunately, your friend has been addicted to gambling which is a point where gambling serves as a medicine to the gambler. Thus, until one gambles he will never be at rest. This is a very bad level in the life of any gambler. Borrowing to gamble is a very bad habit and when a gambler gets to this point then he/she needs to see a psychologist because, in my opinion, such a person is not normal. Someone rational will understand that there is a high level of uncertainty in gambling and borrowing to gamble means creating more problems for himself since there is always a low probability of winning in gambling. I have a friend who gambled with his mom's money and then tried to commit suicide to escape the anger of his mom. The risk involved in gambling with borrowed money is high and capable of making someone hurt himself or others or even carry out actions that ordinarily he/she wouldn't want to do. The pains that come from gambling with borrowed money and losing it are more compared to when we use money not borrowed. The only way to stop such a habit is to place a ban on such persons from gambling or make them see a psychologist to talk them out of such addiction.

I wonder why some persons will even immagine borrowing money for gambling, most persons feel there is assurance is this gambling of a thing, they forget the fact that gambling is as risky as trading. The moment you get yourself involved in gambling,it now becomes your habbit to be part of gamble, except you are someone who has great self control when it comes to gambling. He who borrows money to gamble isn't seen as a sensible person to me because there is no guarantee to winnig,so what's the need to borrow the money?

Since gambling is now mobile how do you plans to stops those people from gambling, do you tends to keep monitoring them anywhere they goes or knowing how they keeps making their movements?
No! this can't be possible even though we go around the gambling site within one's area to announce to them to stop allowing him/her to gambling the gambler don't mind going another location where no one's knows about them and place their bets. The best thing is to condition them, with placing a condition or restriction from them there may be a change in his/her life.

Some people have no other option but to borrow money from another person just to continue their gambling habits. It is surprising how enthusiastic some people are about gambling, even when they don't have any money. Gamblers will go to great lengths to find the funds they need to start gambling, including selling their possessions. For many, the sole goal is to have enough money to cover their gambling expenses. Despite the risks associated with gambling, many individuals are willing to continue playing.

I think that the worst thing a person can do is borrow money to bet in a casino, normally we as players can say that if we love a casino and that we can make a difference by doing something for our happiness, but neither do we. It is that we have to risk much more than we are or are allowed to, it is not well seen that things are like this, to ask for a loan I believe that it must be for some emergency, something like something medical, something that in reality requires attention, but for a casino where money is very likely to be lost? Well, I don't see it as viable, in fact I classify it as a great irresponsibility.

I resent the people who do that, but I don't agree that they have to support it, because simply things can turn bad, it is very likely that the casinos are the ones that take advantage of those efforts, and the day when a loan is required For something true, they will not grant it, because in life sometimes things happen like that.

This bad practice of borrowing money just for gambling will cause problems and as you said, he will go here and there to cover the loan and in the end sell the goods to cover all his debts.

The irony is like this if you gamble with loans.

I don't borrow anything for the sake of gambling, this is just extra money that is used for fun and is ready to lose in essence, if gambling is turned into income with more hopes then it will never be realized in fact you will feel more burdened because there is a lot of pressure on the loan to be repaid if expired.

When you have more money you can gamble, but if you don't have money then don't force yourself to gamble.

When will the curse of gambling be eliminated from society?
This question is more or less asking when will man be eliminated from society. In my thinking, the curse of gambling can never be eliminated from society since it will be difficult to stop gambling activities in all jurisdictions. The reason is that a cry of one is a gain to another. That is, each time we lose a bet, someone gains (Bookies) as in sports betting and these multi-billion dollar companies (Bookies) pay taxes to the government to stay in business so it becomes difficult for the government to end gambling. In as much as gambling continues to be legal and the government continues to benefit from it, the curse of gambling can never be eliminated from society.

It is a very bad idea to use loan money for gambling. If you have no money, it is better to stop gambling temporarily than force yourself with loan money. You have done the right way to help your friend. But to stop the habit, it depends on your friend decision. You only can to give him advice.

When it becomes a habit, it will be very difficult to stop it. Sometimes, we need an expert to do special treatment. Also, we don't forget that we need the support from our family to make it successful. The family must have a big role to stop the bad habit, so you may try to tell your friend's family about that case.

That's very true the expert's help is highly needed for the ones who are overly addicted to gambling but to avail an expert's help the family's support is more needed than anything else. The OP also mentioned that his friend is a worker class citizen and if we keep that in mind then his family should also have weak financial background and that won't let them to help the addict but they may instead get more dis-heart when they get awareness about his addiction. But, surely they will still help him more than anyone else.

When will the curse of gambling be eliminated from society?
This question is more or less asking when will man be eliminated from society. In my thinking, the curse of gambling can never be eliminated from society since it will be difficult to stop gambling activities in all jurisdictions. In as much as gambling continues to be legal and the government continues to benefit from it, the curse of gambling can never be eliminated from society.
Gambling is as old as humanity and it is part of humanity, so it cannot be eliminated by man. There are different governments of the world, so there is no unilateral decision by one central government controlling the world. When one government bans gambling, another government will approve it while some other government will just be indifferent.

In as much as the government is trying to make us all not to be addicted by enacting some certain laws to guide us in gambling, we should also have to help ourselves by being disciplined.
