Line Buat Jual Beli 'Cryptocurrency'

Line ikut meramaikan industri financial technology (fintech) yang tengah marak. Namun, aplikasi layanan perpesanan itu tidak meluncurkan alat pembayaran sendiri ataupun layanan peminjaman. Alih-alih, Line membuat layanan pertukaran mata uang kripto (cryptocurrency) dengan nama Bitbox.

Saat ini Bitbox melayani jual beli 30 mata uang kripto, diantaranya Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, dan Litecoin. Layanan ini dapat digunakan diseluruh dunia dan tersedia dalam 15 bahasa. Bitbox hanya bisa diakses lewat web di https://www.bitbox.me/.

Sebelumnya, Line sudah sempat mengumumkan kehadiran Bitbox pada gelaran Line Conference di Tokyo pada bulan Juni lalu. Kini layanan tersebut dibawa ke Indonesia.

Bitbox dioperasikan oleh anak perusahaan Line Corporation dan LVC Corporation, Line Tech Plus yang berbasis di Singapura.

"Sekarang kami ingin membawa pengalaman kami ke dalam dunia token digital lewat pertukaran Bitbox kami," kata CEO Line Takeshi Idezawa dalam pernyataan tertulis yang diterima CNNIndonesia.com, Senin (16/7).

Dalam layanan Bitbox, Line bekerja sama dengan perusahaan BitGo yang menyediakan teknologi keamanan multi-signature, yakni manajemen keamanan menggunakan tiga kunci. Cara ini disebutkan dapat meningkatkan keamanan transaksi.

Selain itu, teknologi ini memiliki konfigurasi keamanan yang memastikan aset pengguna aman ketika masuk dan keluar dari dompet. Dompet BitGo juga dipasangkan dengan cold storage BitGo yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk melakukan transfer aset dengan sederhana.

Lebih lanjut, untuk menjamin keadilan dan transparansi sistem, Line mengklaim tim penyaringan Bitbox akan mengevaluasi ketat semua token yang nantinya akan ditambahkan ke sistem pertukaran.

Barclays Bank may be looking to blockchain to streamline fund transfers and know-your-customer processes, according to newly-released patent applications.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published two applications by the U.K.'s second-largest bank Thursday, both of which revolve around account security. Perhaps most notably, however, was an application for a patent which outlined a blockchain-platform which could facilitate cryptocurrency transfers. The bank also proposed streamlining know-your-customer processes by storing identifying information on a private blockchain.

Though the existence of a patent application does not necessarily mean the bank is planning to develop any products with the technology, the releases indicate members of the bank are examining the nascent technology.

As one document explains:

"The use of a block chain provides at least several benefits. These include its public nature, allowing any other party or entity from viewing the data and cryptographic verification of the data enabled by the digital signatures, hashing and layered nature of the block chain. The transaction is a complete and verified unit of data in a form that may be added to the block chain ... Further or duplicate checks and work may be avoided, which can improve the efficiency of computer networks."

As such, Barclays' proposal would provide "a more reliable form of verification without substantially increasing technical overheads and improves the operation of computing environments and telecommunications networks."

And that's not all. The application details a "super" user authority, which would have the right to migrate old information to present blocks, and perhaps even delete old ones with sufficient support from other user authorities in the system. This use could theoretically mitigate blockchain size and storage issues.

The other patent is even more direct - it suggests generating a blockchain to transfer "digital currency from a payer to a recipient."

Steve Bannon, former chief strategist to U.S. President Donald Trump, confirmed that he wants to launch a cryptocurrency of his own.

Speaking to CNBC on Wednesday, the Breitbart co-founder said "they're the future," adding that "we're working on some tokens now, utility tokens, potentially, for the populist movement on a worldwide basis."

Bannon first hinted at the idea in June, though at the time he was hesitant about revealing too many details of his cryptocurrency plans, according to the New York Times.

He did contemplate naming his token the "deplorables coin" at the time, referencing a term used by former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to describe Trump's supporters during the 2016 presidential campaign.

On Wednesday, Bannon spoke about the cryptocurrency space more broadly as well, saying "I think these cryptocurrencies have a huge aspect in the future. Obviously, there's problems in the markets, problems about what it's used for."

That being said, he said most ICOs have been disasters. As such, Bannon insisted the product he and his team are currently working on has to have "quality."

Bannon also commented on a few other cryptocurrencies in the markets already, saying, "I like bitcoin. I own bitcoin," but saying he does not own any ether.
