Post count & points changes - suggestion.
« on: April 18, 2018, 11:05:58 PM »
I found today new rules for post count and I'll suggest to adjust points better. Topic creators are awarded with more points and I don't agree with this fully.

I'm not so good in starting new topics and never was. In 6 years on BTT I created only 9 and all because of translations. But I am very active in discussions. Do my best to write quality answers and to be helpful. I see that points are drastically reduced. I don't mind to get little less but from what I see the difference is big.

This has to be adjusted. If somebody write quality answer with more as 150 or 200 symbols should be rewarded with same amount of points as new topic author. We can not discourage people from writing high-quality answers by rewarding them with a minimum or a much lower number of points than for any new topic. When people figure this out we will be flooded with low quality topics created by newbies. We will have more new topics and less discussion because incentive to create new topics will be better as answer or just a random post with your opinion or point of view.

Don't forget that quality content is really time consuming. I need sometimes more as 20 minutes to create and later edit my post.

I want to hear your opinions on this matter fellow AltcoinsTalkers. Please share your thoughts.

I totally agree with you.

I want to add something to what you said.

It will be a good idea give more points to who starts topics about guides and traslations in this forum.
Especially in the beginner sections.

Regarding to give more points to those people that reply to a topic, as EmoneyABC said, there are people that really put a minimum of effort in what they write or how they write.

I personally I don't agree to give more points only to those people that create topic.
We have to remember that for growing a community we need 2 kind of people:
who does questions and who replies.
If we discourage the last one , there will be only an unilateral communication.

i hear you guys.

but we are still a new forum, more topics are very important
the difference is not that huge, barely x3  between replay and new topic

later we will implement changes, as seen fit.

concerning quality replies, that's how karma enters into play, we want to motivated topic starters to give +karma for the good answers they get.

and karma will eventually be transformed into + points,

this is the plan, not everything implemented yet though.

I don't want to repeat myself but I have to say this.

I think you will immediately see drop in quality answers. There is no or reduced by 3 incentive for creativity in new posts. This is how perspective works. From your perspective reduction by 3 is not much and for me this is huge.

I tried my best to write quality answers which encourage other people to discuss the topic or to give a simple answer but in both cases I always think how to create more discussion and buzz around the topic. This cost time and effort. From the time of reduction I don't feel like I have the motivation to do this. Of course I like this forum and as a supporter I will continue to do my best but I am 1 of out 100 who will do it without being awarded. The majority will open a crappy topic in newbie help section with guide how to login.

We already have problem with spam on the forum and now we will be even more exposed for spam. People think only how to rank up fast and to join good bounty just after to earn $$$. I agree that something has to be done with spam but we can't punish quality content writers for this. This looks like I got 3 times less for my work because of this situation which is just not fair for me.

Once again this new point system has to be adjusted and shitposters with short answers should be punished and quality writers with good, long answers rewarded even more together with new topics creators to encourage both groups to be very active, rank up faster and gain more points and finally incentives.

Don't shoot yourself in the foot Admin like BTT with merits.

I completely agree with EmoneyABC and Libet.

This will improve the number of quality posts in the forum and thereby attracting the crowd towards Altcoinstalks.

I disagree with your ideology. By encouraging newbies to create spammy post we are degrading the community. I agree that Quantity is important, but Quality is more important.

Consider this scenario, if a guy searches the web for some answers regarding altcoins and is directed here to a topic which answers his question. There is a chance that he might traverse through the forum for gaining some more knowledge. What if he sees good posts to spam post in ratio 1:3. Will he stay in this forum for long? No. He'll be leaving soon enough.

The revenue sharing ideology will attract a lot of users, but if we lack in quality we'll be sharing the forum with spammers.

There is still a lot of room to grow big, even bigger than BTT if we stick to quality as cryptocurrency is still new to the majority of the world

yes i confirm, there is a karma penalty and already a mod and several snr members have been punished with karma penalty
which resets karma to 0, and deny the member the ability to give karma.

This is good to have another tool against karma abuse. If somebody abuses karma can be punished with karma reset and even no more ability to issue karma in the future. Great implementation Admin.

Ok, seems like creating topic are being encouraged here. Yes you have some valid points and I am certainly realising that we need more active members for the forum. If you see the forum related board then you will see so far I have asked so many question and seems like nobody even seen them.

You are right that there is only few active members, especially on forum related board. I see your questions, suggestions and like I told you I'm glad to have you on board. It will be nice to hear some summaries every few months. How many users joined, how many are active, how much new topics, posts, etc? It would give an inside view on the forum and will be good for transparency and marketing.

Let's hope that original approach in this forum, great admin and our support will be enough to grow fast enough and not be forgotten between numerous new forums which popped up lately. I see that our social media channels are frequently followed by new users and Telegram group  is growing every day. I think we need even more advertisement. More bounties and extra task to spread the word.

I will start a thread soon about AlcoinsTalks marketing and futures plans to brainstorm possibilities and suggestions.
