Believing to have good result in the future is what makes someone decide to hold. actually people holds what they think potential coin specially bitcoin because it was proven already that can survive in the long years in crypto. In short thinking in advance to have enough profit is what the main reason.

Thinking advance is the key, if you think that your holdings has potential to grow you should hold it and then sell it, if it actually grows but if you think that your holdings has no potential then you should sell it soon, because it might become useless.

Well more than "hodl" people need to learn to not catch falling daggers.. atleast so quickly.  I know people who started buying for the next rally back in May and their positions are slaughtered now.  Alts just won't do well if BTC isn't so wait for BTC to behave more properly before entering alt positions.. you could still be 100% into BTC right now and still catch most of the bottom for alt positions for the next market cycle with very little slippage.
