Around $380 million flowed into ICOs in October, according to CoinSchedule. That’s well below the $800 million-plus the crowdfunding model generated in September. That brings the total capital raised for the year to $3.25 billion.

Readers may recall that ICOs surpassed early stage venture capital  following a massive surge in the months of May, June and July. At the start of the year, there was barely any activity in the space.

http://prntscr.com/h3hnys

So far this year, a total of 203 crowdraises have been issued. The previous year saw just 46 with a total raise of $93.4 million.
A Closer Look at the Numbers

More than one-third (37%) of the  funds raised this year went toward infrastructure projects. That amounts to a little more than $1.2 billion. Trading and investment platforms generated nearly $420 million, or 12.9% of the total capital raised.

Finance projects were the third most popular at $307 million, or 9.4%. Data storage (8.8%), payments (6.6%) and healthcare (6.2%) were also on investors’ radar.

Practically every industry has been represented in token raises this year, including governance, supply and logistics, machine learning and even commodities.

Infrastructure was by far the biggest category for 2016. accounting for more than 45% of the total capital raised. That was followed by trading and investing (12.3%), content management (9.5%) and events and entertainment (7.8%).

Filecoin continues to be the biggest capital raise ever at $257 million. Tezos is a close second at more than $232 million. The top-ten list of token raises is provided below.

ICO's have become a very valuable tool for raising seed financing since you can raise money to create a minimum viable product often without giving away any of the ownership.

This. Sometimes , i have invested in some ICO's without product , but if the team is reknown, social medias are full and the idea , even if it fail , can attract some investor & people is a solid ground for every ICO , dont chase the basic crypto currency pow without anything significantly innovative  ;)

There are more scams out there than actual ICO. Alot of projects are just there to raise money and going to do nothing.

Picking an ICO now calls for due diligence and forget the bignames backing them. They are doing it for a slice.

ICO successes are increasingly being determined by the 'shill factor'. The more shilling it gets the more people invest not minding if it is a solid project or not!

This is just overwhelming with so many ICO to choose one or few good ones. Even with help from few specialized web pages where you can see in one place all ongoing and incoming co is still hard to choose. I think we have to be prepared when investing in ICO that 60 to 70% of them will be not successful or even scam. So we have to invest in few ICO at the same time to reduce the risk of loosing your entire investment. Never put all eggs in one basked.

The recent ICO phenomenon has changed the way companies fund the development and operating costs of their businesses. Sometimes it's hard to understand that investors will part with their hard-earned cash for something that has never been made. But this is exactly what happens in the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency.

Intermediaries have tightly entangled production chains. Today goods need to pass 5 to 10 intermediaries before reaching out to consumers.

At each stage, intermediaries charge fees for their “services”. Of course, some really do useful work: for instance, intermediaries find sale of products or solve legal issues. But the majority of agents does nothing useful; it only takes part in the production chains, hands products over and receives their percentage.

One of the most important problems facing modern society is reducing the number of useless intermediaries (ideally, excluding them entirely).  Goods should not get worse and more expensive for the end user due to the fact that someone decided to earn by doing nothing.

In some cases, the percentage of products’ price that intermediaries take away can reach up to 40-50%! An impressive number, isn’t it? Isn‘t it true that buying goods in a store for 100 rubles with only 50-60 rubles going to the producer at best, is not a thing you want to be part of?

Good news is that modern technologies can be used for getting rid of useless intermediaries completely in 15-20 years. Blockchain platforms, which have appeared in the past few months, offer convenient interfaces for P2P-interaction. Consumers and producers are starting to understand the benefits of such developments.

Today, modern technologies allow mass market companies to find consumers directly. This is convenient for both. The manufacturer sells its products without spending a lot of time and can quickly reinvest its profits into improvement of the quality of output. And the consumer buys products at a reduced price as it does not pay the costs of intermediaries, which have previously been laid by the manufacturer into the price of goods.

The future economy is in direct interaction between the consumer and the producer. Useless intermediaries are doomed to disappearing. The extra profits that they receive today will vanish as blockchain technologies are spreading rapidly. And this will happen in the near future, just in 3-4 years.

The Yodse (https://yodse.io) platform eliminates intermediaries from the production chain. Only manufacturers and consumers will be dealing with products, i.e. the very ones who are intended to do so.

I agree with what many of you said on here. It takes quite some transparency for me to invest in a project and I always do as much research on the team as possible. I think basically all stands and falls with the team. The last ICO I participated in for example, I even came across by knowing the team beforehand: I knew the Austrian start up Oroundo already and read about their new project, the cultural coin. Its particularly reassuring to me if the team has already been in the business for quite some time.
So yes, basically I would say TEAM, realistic CONCEPT and RATINGS on independent platforms.

I just checked Vlux as it seems in general that projects aimed at p2p energy trading are worth developing but revenue or any beyond speculative return on the investment is doubtful unless if you are a wealthy philanthropist or aware that price after listing not necessarily reflecting what you paid in the initial sale so sticking to projects like MyShield my prove a wise thing following the rule of not putting all your eggs in to one basket, where MyShield is backed by a mother company and will provide services in the cyber security sector which under current circumstances is set to grow only

I concur with what a significant number of you said on here. It takes very some straightforwardness for me to put resources into a venture and I generally do however much research on the group as could reasonably be expected. I think fundamentally all stands and falls with the group. The last ICO I partook in for instance, I even ran over by knowing the group in advance: I knew the Austrian start up Oroundo as of now and read about their new venture, the social coin. Its especially consoling to me if the group has just been in the business for a long while. For sure, fundamentally I would state TEAM, reasonable CONCEPT and RATINGS on autonomous stages.

ICOs have raised $1.3 billion so far this year, while $634 million in venture money went into crypto-fueled startups over that same period.
I think investment in the ICO for this year will definitely decline. various obstacles hampered the development of the ICO, as many ICO frauds were the main causes of the reduced level of investor confidence in the ICO. in addition, the crypto market factor which is decreasing causes the value of tokens for various projects to be unstable and tend to decrease.
