Despite this, while Ether is clearly a competitor to Bitcoin, bearing in mind that the combined market capitalisation of both is way south of the market capitalisation of some of the world's biggest companies, there is room for both at present, and for now, Ethereum won't “overtake” Bitcoin.

No, I don't believe Ethereum will overtake bitcoin.
Well Ethereum is always be number second below bitcoin.
But bitcoin is still the biggest and has high demand.
Bitcoin is the king of crypto currency and always be the number one.

Such a flipping is possible. In this current cycle if it happens, it would be preceded by a bitcoin rally and would then happen in the following altcoin season when bitcoin dominance falls, but this (IF it happens and that's a big IF) would likely be short-lived. That's the short-term scoop... in the long run, I would say anything is possible because crypto is largely driven by narrative and narratives can change significantly over a significant amount of time.

They are possible but are they probable?

As Ethereum will be more innovative and developer-friendly, it is likely to surpass Bitcoin at some point in the future, said Tegan Kline, co-founder of blockchain software company Edge & Node. Additionally, she strongly recommended that investors allocate capital to both tokens.

Judging from some time ago the performance of ETH was much better than Bitcoin, but keep in mind that if BTC is the number one cryptocurrency in the world, bitcoin has far dominated the market compared to ETH. Moreover, the price of ETH is still far below Bitcoin,
so I don't think ETH can overtake Bitcoin.

Currently the narrative around bitcoin and ethereum are different: bitcoin is seen as a store of value whereas ethereum is the largest smart contracting platform for building de-fi / dApps etc. So long as bitcoin remains as the dominant store of value crypto asset, it is unlikely that it would flip ETH. But is it possible that the world would begin to see ETH also as a store of value in addition to the "decentralized computing platform" that is? Sure, over time this change in narrative could take place and then we could see ETH dominate over BTC, but at this point all this is pure speculation.

Bitcoin is certainly increasing all the time what Etherium does.  First of all, the price of Bitcoin went up much earlier.  The price of etherium coins rises relatively little or late.  So Bitcoin avoids Etherium all the time or gets ahead of its growth.

Criptocurrency market Bitcoin and Ethereum options are derivatives contracts that provide buyers with the right—not the obligation—to buy the assets at a certain price in the future. When options are set to expire, the market can become volatile. This is because would-be traders will either continue to hold or dump their potential crypto buys.

Kings were always born, matured, aged and died. We do not know what will happen to bitcoin in the foreseeable future, but such a possibility does exist, since bitcoin is noticeably outdated, and the ethereum network is being seriously updated.
Ethereum will not yet be able to overtake Bitcoin in price, and I think it shouldn't even try to do that. According to forecasts, this coin may surpass Bitcoin in terms of capitalization and price dominance. Now there is a starting opportunity for this if Ethereum 2.0 is successfully implemented.

This is not likely to happen when it happens, bitcoin has proven itself very well and will keep this position. Ethereum is a good project in which you need to invest your investments, but it is too young before bitcoin.

In fact, nothing is impossible in crypto, even though you say Ethereum is still too young, but if we look at the current market cap between the two of them, it is not as far apart as last year. so it might happen if ethereum can fix the system which is currently being updated because the problems in ethereum are still quite a lot.

but indeed everything needs a process and it will not be easy to do because bitcoin will also not provide other opportunities to be able to do that. so it still takes time to achieve this.

I don't think we will see it overtake Bitcoin in the next few years. After that it's anyone's guess.

I think we cannot say this, nothing is impossible in crypto. Even Bitcoin can be overtaken by other coins, not only Ethereum. But we don't know when it is, or how much the possibility of this. I am sure, in the near future, Bitcoin is still the number one coin. But in the next 20 years, we don't know what's happening.

Of course not. BTC reign the whole crypto ecosystem which could trigger to swing the market anytime if something's happening in unexpected scene.
