Do you think that religion has the power to influence one who is addicted to gambling to stop gambling, if you have a friend who is addicted to gambling do you believe that by leading him to your religion or church he will be a changed man and stop gambling or he will moderate his addiction.

Sorry if this offends anyone, but I feel that swapping a gaming addiction for an intense focus on religion doesn't truly fix the issue. It's okay to have faith, but using religion as a cure for gambling addiction by pushing someone towards the church might not be the best approach. Going to extremes in anything, including religion, often isn't healthy. Becouse in real its like switching from one addiction to another, like going from gaming too much to getting overly involved in something else, isn't really solving the problem.
To support someone with a gaming addiction, it's crucial they recognize the issue and take steps towards engaging in social activities again. Often, addictions mask deeper problems. Understanding and addressing these underlying issues is essential, typically with professional guidance. Alternatively, reducing gaming time gradually, much like weaning off smoking, could be a self-managed approach to easing out of the addiction.

For me , I think this decision to stop gambling is still solely dependent on the gambler himself. The religious beliefs of the person can't really stop the person from his addiction although even this is not for everyone they might be some folks that are a exception to this too but from where am coming, I have seen lots of religious person who are strong addict to the habit and still seek for help in other ways and that's why I made my conclusion from that view.

In Islam, gambling is seen as a sin, so it's possible that a gambler who is Islam by religion is ignorant of gambling when it comes to his religion, then perhaps he became addicted to gambling, all effort to stop the gambling didn't work, Islam can make him change if he really want to change. You know the human mind is easy to calm when they hear the words of God and things they might face after life. If indeed a gambler want to change and believe in religion, he is going to change.

However, if the gambler is the type that don't give in to religion, there is no word of God or sermon that will make him change for good.

Everything boils down to hoe serious the addict is ready to change their ways. If they are not determined, there's nothing that can be done. Everything boils down to decision and the courage to stick with it.  A person who's determined and ready to change doesn't necessarily need a religion to change.  This doesn't change the fact that a community wouldn't help but it's should be known that despite the effect it would have to reduce their gambling.  The final decision still rest on the gambler.

no. i don't think religion alone can change and stop being a gambler after listening to the teachings of the pastor. 
 the only reason why a person would listen to a pastor is when this person owes the pastor some money or the pastor had helped this man in his money problems. but it would take a pastor to visit him.

the pastor has to work hard and visit you from time to time, diverting the guy's habit to devoting himself to the church. and congrats to the pastor for doing that.

That depends on the individual whether to change because of the words preached to them in the church or not.

I believe that before someone changes from an act or addiction to something, it must come from their mind or the situation they were facing or what they must hear about that. Since gambling has many negative thoughts about it, changing ways from it, through the religious aspect is quite possible. Let I say, it is an individual difference. I have seen many who got their life changed in the church because they were told about the negative impact of gambling both physical and spiritual aspects.

I can only share the stories I've heard but regardless of religion, I think a divine intervention will completely change even the most addicted gambler.

They are probably the most devoted followers of Islam. Like other religions, there are those who are only follower by name. What I mean is that they do not follow the teachings and gamble on the side.

Thanks for all the replies so far, for me, I don't think religion or the church can make a gambler change his way, the only exception is if he is repentant and fully embraces his church or religion with all his heart.

A gambler should be rehabilitated to take out the symptoms and the urge to gamble he needs to be in a facility and monitor his behavior, for a gambler it's an everyday struggle to take out the urge so he needs professional help something that a church cannot provide, the church can still assist in his recovery but a professional who knows how to deal with addiction is mandatory.

It depends on the person. Like if it is a person who have a great belief in God in the past but end up on a wrong path due to gambling, that person can still be influenced by the church to change his way of life. If that person has been in church since their younger days, it might affect his life, and starts to devote his life to going to church instead of gambling.

While some don't believe in God or any religion at the very beginning. It will be hard, and sometimes there will be no chance at all to influence that kind of gambler. You will only be treated as a clown in his eyes.

Even it is not religion but when the gambler completely listen to himself leaving gambling ? it will be done.

Religion can try changing people but as what i have seen over the years? gamblers continue to gamble and sometimes even ask for Gods wisdom and support for them to win in specific game they are betting lol.

Religion will not always provide enlightenment to his life. I have a friend who is very addicted to gambling sites and always makes bets in casinos and slots. For the religion he believes in is not very strong so maybe he will not change his addiction to gambling places anymore through religion. Usually in my country they will provide rehabilitation places so that there will be two goals that must be corrected, the first is Religion or the belief that God exists, Next is to improve the nature of addiction by doing positive activities such as learning to produce something positive so as to improve skills that can be used to earn money and survive to become better than before.

Then yeah, definitely, an instant eternal cure!

Is the said religion not at all focused on those aspects of life, like shito then it would do nothing, is the religion quite the opposite by considering everything inevitable much as Taoism then gambling is not considered a negative addiction but pretty much close way the path each one can choose in life, the good luck (pun) with that!

I don't think it will be religion per se, but if the gambler believes in something higher then maybe. But we all know that some of us might not be influence by religion, I mean most of them frown gambling but still though, people are gambling so there is no effect of religion whatsoever to the gamblers. And a gambler wants to change, doesn't matter what religion the person has. Not unless he as some sort of encounter with "God" and he transform himself. So the best remedy for gamblers is to go to rehab, therapy and support groups to change his ways as gamblers are not that really receptive to religion.

this is where religion is going to control you literally when you join their rehab. while we all want to get out and get our freedom, some people will just love to be handled instead.
 
but in the name of jesus i guess people will like to be influenced by church. when its for the name of god, most people who believe in god will be willing to do all these stuff actually. one thing that comes in their mind is obey.
