Not for a long time, but in the end: yes. It will be surpassed by newer and better cryptocurrencies. Once those become more established, I believe ethereum will loose its value. But I'll give that development at least another 5 years. So benefit from current market prizes and buy to hold for middle.long term.

If you look back at 2014, many old crypto currencies in top 10 coin market cap has faded away.
ETH is going to it limit, now it's slow and unscalable.
But in next 2, may be 3 years. I think it still rises hard and overtake BTC at somepoint.

I think eventually all first gen platforms in crypto will die, but it will take a very long time (except maybe bitcoin, all of its limitations can be considered pros over cons unless something comes out that is more decentralized, faster, and not proof of work with lower transaction fees). We're nowhere near that day though.. ETH has some fud to work out with all of the garbage on its network but it'll soar to new heights over the next couple of years, and will balloon out to a very high number before starting its steady decline as adoption of faster technology takes over in smart contracts.

up and down is a cycle that does indeed happen at reasonable market crypto. that's indicative of a cycle of activity in the market. so the etherium isn't as easy as we imagine to die.

Yes ethereum is number two based on the capitalization of marketcap and bitcoin is number one, we don't have any other reason ethereum will be die, also many ICO project be built on ethereum's platform include the decentralize application dapps on ethereum's platform too. Though bitcoin has gone below 6K$ last month, I did not see any signs ethereum was dying. ETH has a good promising value compared to other altcoins. And I think it will probably take over bitcoin soon if btc cannot recover from this bearish weather in cryptomarket.
