I prefer Monero because I think its the most essential privacy coin out there, and Ethereum has fierce competition coming up right behind it. Monero I think likely in the future will become my 2nd biggest hold as I start to value the privacy properties more and more. Ethereum I'm bullish on but its less of a sure steady rise... and I don't like gambles in my portfolio for long term.

Ethereum is far more better than monero as it has multiple functionalities. Monero is best anonymous coin but in ethereum you can build dapps, you can raise money through Erc 20 based ICo tokens and many other possibilities are there. So though I like both monero and ethereum, I will prefer ethereum more.

For now I'll choose Eth because ethereum is the second most traded in the cryptocurrency and the trade for ethereum right now is increasing because of the investors and institutional money enters the market. XMR and ETH have completely different use cases. Monero (http://seo abuse/monero) is used for payment while Ethereum (http://seo abuse/ethereum) is a platform to launch dApps.
Both have good potential in their category, but if you compare only in terms of investment then my bet would be on Eth.

I like both XMR and ETH, for me they are at the moment the only alternatives to BTC worth of investing and long term hodling without permanent fear of total loss like in some other short lived fantasy-crypto projects. The tech in a coin/asset/token has nothing to do with the price. That is why Bitcoin is still the King, because no one comes even close to its adoption.
