Replacing bitcoin is a sooner or later thing as of now eth is the most promising candidate but who knows maybe as time goes on there is more promising coin like stellar which take the role instead.

In reality, nothing shows that Ethereum is giving Bitcoin a tight competition on the market although it ranks second position. Even considering the price difference, Bitcoin is way up above Ethereum. Talking of market cap, Bitcoin appears to have more than twice of that of Ethereum. Perhaps, Ethereum has to buckle up and improve upon its Blockchain in order to attract more investors to itself.

Etherium is amazing but i believe that it cant replace the amazing bitcoin. Bitcoin is the number one followed by eth in terms of popularity. But i believe that bitcoin is the most amazing and it is still the number one coin in crypto feild maybe someday eth will surpass bitcoin but i think it is not that easy to surpass.

Now as days Bitcoins dominance rate becomes lower and lower so altcoin still have chance to cheese. Off Course from all altcoin ethereum is best because it is stable then other, also it's popularity higher then other altcoin.

If you mean replace as no.1 in terms of marketcap, I will say it is possible because crypto is full of surprises and we cannot predict the future. But in terms of its use case as mode of payment, I would say that its impossible to surpass bitcoin in this feature. Bitcoin is much superior than etherium in this thing.

For now, I think It is difficult. Bitcoin is the King. It will take several years again. I see ethereum is struggling now.
