Title: Why there are less women in crypto currency?
Post by: Lyfuuuuu on March 18, 2018, 09:09:18 AM
Take a look around the crypto community, both in meatspace and online, and it would be fair to say that the majority of participants are male. This is borne out in a recent survey of 2,000 Americans which shed light on the makeup of the bitcoin space, highlighting a stark gender divide. In fact Google Analytics data estimates less than 4% of bitcoin users to be female. The question is, why?

Cryptocurrency is different then other papers fiat money, and it's new also! women's are involving various work around the globe but cryptocurrency is like gamble and involve with risk I think maximum numbers of women's are not agree to risky investment but male always involving then female in economical activities so male is more then involve with cryptocurrency trading, women's are away from cryptocurrency.

I believe it's because women usualy don't like to use money or effort on something that carries a high level of risk. They tend to go on things that most likely will give them profits. On the other hand, I believe that women is better at managing their money/earnings, and if they dedicate time on learning about crypto, they will have trust and get involved.

I don't go to crypto enthusiats meetings for that reason. Too many guys in one room, feels like a disco that rhymes with cisco. Jokig aside, it is interesting how I cannot get my girlfriends intersted in crypto. Just won't bother with it, strange.

An interesting topic about the survey of male and female participation in crypto currency, I think men like to explore new things, enjoy the adventure and explore new areas. Women are happy and like to refresh themselves.

They don't like to try stuffs that are not commonly known and accepted. Also don't like to take risk or involve themselves in stuffs with uncertainties like crypto-currency

Man this topic turned extremely sexist.

As a woman, I would say that the reason more of us aren't involved in the community isn't due to an overall lack of interest, but it stems from the fact that our online community presence is much lower than the male online community presence. This can be an issue for many reasons, for one - there just aren't as many women in similar communities overall leaving the sample pool pretty dismal to consider any variables, there are many women who don't tell you they're women because they have experienced online harassment due to being a woman so people assume they aren't there, or it could possibly be related to the low amount of women in STEM fields overall - perhaps they aren't as interested in technology, or morelikely, there is a deep rooted societal judgement and cause that prevents them from succeeding in a field dominated by men.

There are no fundamental/biological/emotional/physical differences that would help men succeed over women in this area but I think crypto onboarding begins in a community that's already heavily dominated by men(the technology field/community) and because of this, women need to journey into unfamiliar territory before they even begin learning about unfamiliar crypto basics.

Fascinating discussion and a very interesting topic! I think many of you are right. I believe women to tend to put their money in low-risk investments. Men seem to be more risk taking in general when it comes to financial decisions. This article discusses this: https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2015/09/why-are-men-more-likely-to-take-financial-risks/

Then at the same time I think there is the uneven male female ratio in the tech industry in general which plays a big part in this. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/susan-wojcicki/tech-industry-gender-gap_b_9089472.html If less women are generally involved in Tech, its not surprising that less women are involved in cryptocurrencies.
