The issue of transaction is with Bitcoin too. The gas is there to determine the specific speed with which it needs to pass a certain block. The higher the gas set, the faster the transaction and i don't know what makes this complex to you.

In my opinion Ethereum transaction price formation is really simple, it just takes time to understand what are GAS and GWEI and how to calculate transaction actual price. I use MEW and it advices me with amount of GAS after I enter destination ETH address.

The eth gas limit is the transaction fee of Ethereum which is in gwei and somewhat similiar to satoshi per byte transaction fee of bitcoin. I think that what you meant by "and all the stuff" are smart contracts, which is what differentiate ethereum from bitcoin in terms of use cases.
