Karma measures how you contribute to the forum, having negative karma means you violated some rules and positive means that your answers or questions are good.

If you have negative karma you won't be eligible for the forum-managed airdrops.
If you have positive karma, then you have positive karma 
Maybe this will have value in the future...

If you have 1000 points the n you have 100 ALTS.

if you have positive karma it will give you extra points but if you gain negative karma by doing wrong or post in wrong thread you can gain negative karma that reduce your points -1 karma reduce 1000 points.

Two types of karma -
 good karma given to those really good ideas they share in a discussions
and bad karma  given to those who breaks the rules . only Sr to high ranks can give karma in reasonable way.

Karma is like a reward for you whether you did good or bad. If you have negative karma it means that some users dont like your post or you didn't follow the rules and if you a positive karma some users likes your post, your post is informative, or you post is useful to them.

It's funny there are so many messages from people like you when you presumably had 0 karma 
Just goes to show, if you apply yourself and contribute to the forum, you'll get your karma.
