Could be yes to both really, The most expensive part of any kitchen will be the cabinets and countertops, which could go either way.  Both look nice but I think darker kitchens are coming back in style, after years of just white white white.

Kitchens can be expensive to remodel and most of the cost will be wrapped up in two areas, the counter/cabinets and appliances. Appliances are often overlooked but can be a huge budget sink if you don't know where to look for good appliances. My advice to reducing the costs of these big purchases is to find a scratch and dent appliance warehouse that sells slightly scratched and dented appliances at a steep discount, and a hardware stores that specializes in re-selling unused construction project materials.
