I believe it can be adopted everywhere but it's not really meant to be used as a currency in that way.  Some places will accept it as such but it'll be another coin that hasn't come along yet to ultimately be used for day to day transactions.  Bitcoin's price volatility will likely prevent it from ever realistically being used as a currency.
