I think this is just a matter of time because so far Ethereum still has problems that have not yet been fixed, so there is the possibility of new projects such as Binance Smart Chain, and Solana which will replace the Ethereum network. Ethereum must immediately fix the problems it is experiencing to continue to have the largest volume for altcoins.

To be honest, I think the bnb chain will never be the closest competitor to Ethereum. At least because the bnb chain is more centralized, which means it is less secure. For comparison, the bnb chain has 55 validators, and only 40 of them are active, while Ethereum has already more than 1 million active validators.

If the difference in popularity and price is not close then we can never call them worthy competitors of each other. However, there are some coins in the market that are quite promising and popular enough, even if they are not worthy competitors. While BNB may not come close to Ethereum, it goes without saying that its popularity will definitely rank third.
