I see the ethereum  price is recovering  now.  So,  I prefer used another coin for trading.  Hols for along therm,  In my opinion It is not provitable now.  But If you already have ethereum,  You should hold and wait.  Maybe ethereum  will be more valuable at the next year.  ethereum  is still potential

It will be depend on the progress of 2.0 update. Why? They will now transfer to POS blockchain and this method is quite sensitive. Yes but if the process run smoothly then eth could regain its reputation cause mostly prefer POS now than POW due to its easy and way lighter mechanism.

If you want  to reduce the lost,  I think You should hold your ethereum.  Because  I see ethereum still struggle  and recover  slowly.  You can do day trading with a other coin like ripple,  EOS,  litecoin etc.  It is more profitable  to short term investment.  I have used ripple XRP for short term.
