I don't think ethereum can beat bitcoin, because bitcoin is still the biggest. we should see the progress ethereum 2.0 at the Crypto market this year. If ethereum is doing well , I think ethereum will have potential to beat bitcoin at the coming future. We must realistic, But Don't underestimate ethereum too.
Ethereum is there mother of ICO, many tokens have integrated to ethereum.

Ethereum 2.0 has launched but didn't have effect for high transaction fee.

a real prediction, we can't avoid that fact, apart from the very different popularity, and from a market capitalization that doesn't seem easy to anyone will be able to surpass bitcoin for now or even in the future.
let the two stand alone and there is no revality between them, because they complement each other until now.

if you look at the market capitalization, the difference is quite far and there is a very small chance of overtaking bitcoin, especially with the available supplies where bitcoins are getting rarer and harder to find, making the price higher. but actually the two complement each other and need each other not worth juxtaposing. let them already have their own share and run with the capabilities they have to attract investors.
