A scammer claiming to be a stock broker or portfolio manager calls you and offers financial or investments advice. They will claim what they are offering is low-risk and will provide you with quick and high returns, or encourage you to invest in overseas companies. The scammer's offer will sound legitimate and they may have resources to back up their claims.  They will be persistent, and may keep calling you back.

There’s no question that every investment holds some risk, that’s why they have potential to earn you money. However, due to their nature, ICOs can be particularly volatile?—?and because of this volatility, have the potential to be extremely profitable. That’s why you need to perform due diligence before you invest a dime into an ICO.

Yes 2018 recorded a high level of scam projects in the crypto space but that now is driving away slowly as many people has been alerted by this and are not ready to patronize them anymore. Also with the current regulations going on, it's became more difficult for them

What does an investor want in the long-run? To make money out of their investment of course! Because investors want to get a good ROI on their money, they can get a little too greedy. This leaves them open to scam ICOs. If you see an ICO with a tempting taglines such as, “Our coin has 1000% growth!” watch out. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Such astronomical growth rates are not usually sustainable long-term. Be wary of projects that over-promise.

Most ICO scam projects will create a whitepaper with few actual details about the project. Legitimate projects will lay out in great detail how they will use investors’ funds to develop their technology. A scam ICO will only provide the shallowest of details of how they use investor’s money to develop their project. This is a sure sign that they can’t be trusted. Make sure to thoroughly read through the whitepaper of any ICO you’re thinking of investing in

Of all the red flags that identify a potential fraud ICO, guaranteed profits are the most obvious. There are no certainties in the blockchain ecosystem, and no proven, reliable, or guaranteed methods of generating profits. Promises of guaranteed profits come in many different shapes and sizes. Some platforms promise automated trading bots that deliver massive returns, while others promise returns to investors for “staking” their coin. The latter is becoming more prevalent in the ICO ecosystem as interest surrounding the Proof of Stake consensus method increases. BitConnect is arguably the most well-known instance of an ICO that promised guaranteed profits only to be revealed as a Ponzi scheme. Never invest in an ICO that promises guaranteed profits, as there’s no such thing as a “magic bullet” in the cryptocurrency market.

The last one project that scammed in big style was SOBIT.
Sobit was an exchange that was online and full operation.
Suddenly the web page was down as well as the other social communication channels.
I think they have lost big moneys attracting investors and users on their exchange.

The crypto-community need to do some sort of working bounty system for all companies! The tokens that are allocated to the bounty program to be transferred to the account of 3 persons before the ico, he will be obliged to distribute the tokens at the end of the ico, regardless of the circumstances.

Yes, there are still some legit projects but they rarely appear. I think most of projects only produce worthless coins. This is the reason to not trust on ICO investment. Actually I am sad to know this.

Guys, faced with the project, took part in the bounty, the result of Scam. Took part in another bounty company, there ICO ended more than a month ago, and the payment has not yet been the bounty Manager is silent...Apparently this year's bad in respect of ICO projects.

What i think is that the increase rate of scams might be because the ICO cannot hit their soft/hard cap to continue the ICO or they choose to go off silently and not announcing anything to tell the hunter or investors.

While the ICO ecosystem may be a multi-billion dollar industry, it’s also mostly unregulated and ICO scams are becoming more common. This lack of regulation has allowed the market to be plagued by fraudulent platforms and “ICO exit scams,” leaving regulatory bodies around the world scrambling to develop a functional framework for control. LoopX ICO Scam The LoopX project vanished at the beginning of the week when it took down its website and deleted its Facebook, Telegram, and YouTube channels without any notice. Exit scams are becoming more common in the ICO ecosystem. Recently, the LoopX ICO exit scam resulted in the loss of more than $4.5 million USD of investor capital after its creators pulled a disappearing act.
