I think one of the biggest reason is because bitcoin focusing on payment system aside from being the first crypto.

Kind of a complicated answer but bitcoin is the trunk... ethereum is the branches.. and altcoins are the leaves.. ethereum drops not because people are panic selling but people are trying to make a position trade with USD... BTC/ETH drops so ETH/USD has to drop as well or you would have an unnatural arbitrage opportunity that arbitration bots would quickly correct.

It's just that everyone else feels like there's less security in the market, so everyone just acts out of panic. It's pretty much pure panic. BTC is the OG, and unfortunately still has an enormous affect on all coins. It's influence will slowly fade, and has dropped down to around 40% of market value, but until it drops below 20% (which I can guarantee is not happening any time soon) it will continue to have an affect (either positively or negatively) on the markets in general. When I trade, I am always trying to increase value against ETH and/or BTC, very rarely even look at the dollar price as I don't intend to move back into fiat in the near future.
