The Bitmex cryptocurrency exchange, which allows trading with a very high leverage, reported a turnover in excess of 1 million bitcoins over a 24-hour period.
According to the company, the turnover of 1'041'748 BTC per day, on July 24, surpassed the previous record of 800'000 bitcoins traded during the 24-hour period.

CEO and co-founder of Bitmex Arthur Hayes said:

"The astronomical surge in trading volume combined with the steadily rising bitcoin price reflects the market's increasingly sophisticated understanding of bitcoin's potential to redefine global markets. The achievement was also largely due to the constant increase in capacity achieved due to the scaling of the architecture of our exchange. The record, which marks BitMEX, is an important milestone on the overall path of maturation in the cryptocurrency industry."
