Today could have been the 68th birthday of Hal Finney, the man who received the first ever Bitcoin transaction personally from Satoshi Nakamoto.
Finney was a well-known crypto activist. In the early 1990s, in addition to regularly sending messages to crypto-punks using Listserv, Finney wrote sought-after code integrating encryption tools into a special free email distribution software, remailers.
In 2004, Finney wrote the first "Multiple Proof of Work" algorithm prior to the creation of Bitcoin. In January 2009, Finney became the first recipient of a transaction on the Bitcoin network.
According to one version, Finney is the very creator of the first cryptocurrency.
