Is the preview saved somewhere?

Earlier I had written a reply to a post after hitting 'preview' and accidentally closed the window. Is what I had written somewhere or do I have to write it again? I've been looking and I can't see where it might be. Although I see that there is no save as draft option here, which you can later retrieve.

I think if you closed the window you lost it, but you can try your browser's option to reopen recently closed tabs or pages and you might get lucky. Depending on how your browser is configured, it may be cached. It has worked for me in Firefox, but I have never tried it with other browsers, so I can't say for sure.

I'm not aware of that feature in this forum. I do the same mistakes sometimes and it sucks because I have no choice but to type a long reply all over again. I browse on incognito that's why I can't do the cache thing mentioned above.

If the preview button is pressed and the device is turned off or the page is removed, we will never be able to access the previous post again. Because I've usually tried and failed to go back to the previous post, usually trying with another browser might work, but it's not guaranteed.

That's what I thought, it would be a win-win improvement. It's not something that happens very often, but it makes using the forum more enjoyable if it does. Not just because you close the window without noticing. Maybe you get called away, you have to leave and you have a post half done. If you can save it as a draft you avoid closing and losing it or having to save it in a Word document, for example, and then when you come back you can see how the conversation has continued and decide whether to continue using what you wrote or some part of it or what.

I just tried writing a post and than closing a tab in my browser.
Right click on browser top has given me option to Reopen closed tab and my post is fully recovered and ready for posting.
This should work fine for everyone in most browsers, except when you close all browser windows.

I've never tried it with Chrome. But like I said, it depends on how the browser and cache are configured. In Firefox it has worked for me many times, I have been able to recover the post by recovering the last closed tabs/pages and I was able to recover the text without having to do anything else. It is possible that in other browsers it can be configured so that the result is the same, but I am not sure since it has been years since I switched from Opera to Firefox. I have never liked Chrome because of the large amount of RAM it uses.

You are right, Chrome consumes a lot of memory and I used to suffer from this problem a lot in the past, but with the new versions of Chrome this problem has been greatly reduced and there is less RAM consumption. There is also a new feature whereby when you place the mouse on any page a preview appears telling you how much RAM is being consumed.

Anyway, back to our topic, today I tried writing a draft of a post, then I closed the browser not just the tab (exit the program), then I restarted Chrome and it restored the entire draft of the post, meaning it kept the changes I made.

So it seems there is a problem with the settings as you said.

If you are using chrome or any other desktop browser then you can hit ctrl+shift+T and that closed tab will reopen again and if you were using a smartphone then after mistakenly closing a tab, it gives us a notification in the bottom that do you want to undo it, but I guess you must have missed that chance, well, on chrome it is a little hard to use the keywords ass I don't know if they will work (they won't work on the smartphone's keyboard) but they might work if you connect an external keyboard, but there is no surety in that.

After hitting preview posts are not saved and that's the sad reality we all have to face, I mostly write posts on the laptop so whenever due for some reason I lose the tab, I use the shortcut key to restore the tab and if due to internet problem your page looks like "there is no internet connect" then don't reload the page instead click back button and it will take you back to the editor and your post content will be saved also.

I didn't know new versions of Chrome had those new features, maybe I'll give it another chance, although Firefox works great.

That's why I said in one of my posts that it all depends on how the browser we use is configured. I already said that I use Firefox, and the truth is that I have barely touched the settings, just some privacy and security things, but nothing more in depth. So I thought that with other browsers things couldn't be much different and that it would be a matter of finding the right settings.

I just experienced the same error when making this post.
My mistake was that when I had written everything, it turned out that when I was about to post there was a warning that the IP you were using had already been used by another member, even though I was using the TOR browser.
I didn't have time to copy-paste the draft and immediately reloaded it, so in the end my draft writing disappeared and I started posting from the beginning.

It's very annoying to have to write twice but I will continue to remember this problem by copying and pasting it first in notepad and then posting it.

The solution is, write - copy - paste in notepad - reload if the altcoinstalks website is down - copy - paste again when making a post.
