Eth is the most promising altcoin and is based on latest Smart contact technology,its community is increasing a lot,but it can not be compared with BTC.how ever in the future if some unique technology more efficient that BTC is used in eth then it can be considered compatible with BTC,eth can not replace BTC.

If you mean replace as no.1 in terms of marketcap, I will say it is possible because crypto is full of surprises and we cannot predict the future. But in terms of its use case as mode of payment, I would say that its impossible to surpass bitcoin in this feature. Bitcoin is much superior than etherium in this thing.

Bitcoin is not the same as ethereum platform.
Not the same goal but the same aspect with regards to future cryptocurrencies subduing the world from fiat into crypto. I know there are some altcoins there that will be with them.
