Ripple (XRP) CEO Brad Garlinghouse saying in an interview that the US Government is coming for Tether.

This is the reply of Tether CEO on X

Similar to me and my friends: Our grandparents and parents all love to accumulate gold, but we no longer buy gold as a way to reserve wealth. We choose crypto, especially BTC to accumulate because it is simpler, more convenient to buy with smaller amounts, and has much higher profits than gold. We seem to have left gold behind as a part of the past.

In other words you live neither in Vietnam nor in China

@PMbug

you are more knowledgeable than me in the crypto sphere, well you are more knowledgeable than me in the gold sphere too. Let's say you more knowledgeable than me and leave it at that  :D

I wish you could open a thread about the current "war on crypto" and another one about the danger of CBDC.
I think this forum section is the most suitable for both.

As far as I know, that is his nickname, not given to him by the media or by someone who hates him for his ideas. There is no doubt that he has very drastic ideas, but I also personally do not think that he can change his country with them, especially if it is publicly known from which country he is asking for help, and which was the first one he visited after becoming president (US).

President-elect Javier Milei, known by the nickname “El Loco” since he was a kid, rose from university professor to social-media celebrity, making his mark as an economic libertarian and social libertine.

No Lucius, please no
Msn? really?
Microsoft News?

Why do crypto people choose mainstream?
Do you think the elites love you?

El loco - The madman - is used by his enemies in order to defame him.
Nobody among his supporters call him that demeaning way.
So using that nickname you side with mainstream media - those who defame him.

There you go Lucius
It took me 2 minutes, and no, I won't translate it for you

"A social libertine" - "A libertine is a person devoid of most moral principles, a sense of responsibility, or sexual restraints, who sees these traits as unnecessary or undesirable"
Lucius, when you read that expression, didn't come up to you "Well maybe these people aren't 100% objective..."

Crypto people informing themselves about pro-BTC personalities from news organisations - mainstream media - that hate and openly defame them.
And then they wonder why the crypto community has betrayed Bitcoin's ideal

Considering the economic situation in that country, people simply like the change that has taken place, but it remains to be seen what the president will do during his mandate. As far as I know, his party does not have a majority and I don't know if he will be able to implement all the changes he wants, but time will tell if there will be positive changes or not.

Time will tell?
Time doesn't tell anything Lucius, it's us who need to search for infos.
It took me 5 minutes

............................................

That's why Argentinians love him.
Wait for Msn & Facebook to inform you about these achievements.

but I also personally do not think that he can change his country with them

No need to think Lucius, just say goodbye to Msn and Facebook, go to X and do a 5 minutes search.
The Milei administration is fixing the state budget, so Argentina's risk rating is decreasing.
That means their credit rating is increasing - and no, I'm not going to explain the benefits for the country of a credit rating upgrade.

There were some stories that "El Loco" is somewhat pro-BTC, but this is the first time I read that something concrete is happening in that direction

Some stories?
They are not "stories", they are facts. The proposal to de-tax cryptos is not a "story", is a fact.

Milei is the most prominent pro BTC political figure worldwide.
How is it possible that crypto people don't know how pro BTC is the president of a major country?
Oh yes, Msn and Facebook...

It took me 60 seconds
put "Milei" and "Bitcoin" in Seach and scroll down.
Bitcoin Magazine, V. Buterin was one of their founders.

Don't call him El Loco, Lucius

Since Milei is very against their Central Bank, the whole power system is against him.
The media defame him calling him El Loco - The Madman.
Last week someone prominent said Milei is a drug addict.

All the while, the inflation in Argentina has sunk.
His popularity is growing - The people in Argentina love him more and more.

Then you go on crypto forums and find crypto people siding with power and media.
 ::)

I went on X
Put on Search "Milei" + "Bitcoin"
Scrolled down the results
It took me 60 seconds to find this

I wish this forum would support pro-bitcoin figures instead of siding with power and media in trashing them

Although it's a shame the article doesn't mention how they obtain the number/percentage, which makes me question it's accuracy.
Although it's a shame some people can't read
--snip---

You're right, i stand corrected. Anyway, their methodology looks rather complex and they even combine 16 different report/survey. So at very least, i don't think they're faking the number.

Thanks ABC
since the day I was heavily accused of spreading fake news I'm a little touchy when someone questions the accuracy of what I write.

About this Triple-A website
I'm not going to bet my mother over their figures but I find they crunch numbers more than most surveys/articles about the same subject (Countries With The Highest Rates Of Crypto Ownership) that I occasionally met in the past.
If you have something better about the subject, feel free to let us know.

... Do you have reference links to that bank situation in USA? Like big jornal?

Jan 27, 2023 (Fortune Magazine via Yahoo! News):

More recent news (March 30, 2024):

Today:

Sorry - I'm not allowed to post live links

I think you misunderstood the little troll

With bank situation he didn't mean Custodia Bank, he has no idea what that is.
He meant Operation CP2, banks de-banking crypto businesses.

With big journal he meant MainStream Media.
None of the media you quoted is MSM.
He is one of those people who think if something doesn't get reported on CNN and NY Times, it never happened.

I thought my country was in the top 10 countries with the highest crypto ownership, but it's not, maybe I need to look in what order Asia is in,

When voting in the poll, use this map

11
I slightly messed up the poll...

I was trying to improve the order in the list, and in doing so South Asia now has 0 votes, and the vote of South Asia is gone to West Europe.
West Europe should have only 1 vote - and you know him  :D

Sorry South Asia!
My bad

Bitcoin Mining / Argentina To Mine Bitcoin With Stranded Gas
« on: May 09, 2024, 09:56:14 AM »
Argentina's energy sector is increasingly turning to Bitcoin, this time with a state-owned facility using stranded natural gas from oil fields that would otherwise be wasted.

State-owned energy firm YPF's subsidiary, YPF Luz, recently partnered with Genesis Digital Assets (GDA) to launch a gas flare-powered mining facility. It will harness 1,200 machines to monetize gas currently being flared into the atmosphere.

This comes as Argentina embraces Bitcoin with the election of Bitcoin-friendly President Javier Milei in late 2023.

The news mirrors how other countries are utilizing Bitcoin mining to "clean up" energy grids.
Bhutan mines Bitcoin with renewable hydropower to consume its seasonal excess, while El Salvador uses geothermal energy to power mining with no carbon footprint.

This graphic ranks the top 10 countries by their rate of cryptocurrency ownership, which is the percentage of the population that owns crypto.
These figures come from crypto payment gateway, Triple-A, and are as of 2023.

Note that if we were to rank countries based on their actual number of crypto owners,
India would rank first at 93 million people,
China would rank second at 59 million people, and
the U.S. would rank third at 52 million people.

The UAE Takes the Top Spot

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) boasts the highest rates of crypto ownership globally. The country’s government is considered to be very crypto friendly, as described in Henley & Partners’ Crypto Wealth Report 2023:
In the UAE, the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA-ADGM) was the first to provide rules and regulations regarding cryptocurrency purchasing and selling.
The Emirates are generally very open to new technologies and have proposed zero taxes for crypto owners and businesses.

Vietnam leads Southeast Asia

According to the Crypto Council for Innovation, cryptocurrency holdings in Vietnam are also untaxed, making them an attractive asset.
Another reason for Vietnam’s high rates of ownership could be its large unbanked population (people without access to financial services).
