For the first time in the history, 5 German teams will participate in the Champions' League next season.
Thanks to Borussia's success in getting to the final, Bundesliga got awarded an additional spot, so now the top 5 (not 4) teams will be allowed into UCL.

According to the article, if BvB wins the UCL cup AND if they finish 5th, also the 6th team in the table will play in the UCL qualifiers. But if they were to win the UCL and finish in the top 4th the extra spot would be transferred to another country - which doesn't make much sense to me, but since this is official Bundesliga site, I assume they know what they're talking about.

The German teams are performing very well, with Dortmund being the most shocking and unexpected of them all in the finals of the Champions League when they are not even in the top four of their league. Dortmund can still finish in fourth place on their table; Leipzig are just three points ahead, and if they lose their remaining games, they could drop to fifth place on the table.

It's true, Borussia Dortmund were quite disappointing when they were in the Bundesliga, but they were surprisingly able to advance to the Champions League final this season.

Anyone else can't stop thinking that Borussia Dortmund just gave away the match to Mainz? They're currently losing 0-3 (79th minute), and it's hard to believe that Mainz, a team from the bottom of the table, became so good all of a sudden to beat the Champion's League finalist just like that.

The truth is, Mainz is desperate for a win while Borussia can be satisfied with the 5th place, as it will allow them to play in the Champion's League next season even if they lose in the final.
In fact, Borussia finishing 5th instead of 4th, could mean that we could see 6 German teams in the Champions League next season, as per this article (which I linked earlier):

This business is already attached to Borussia Dortmund, when they are successful in creating young players with great potential, then our question is which team will be lucky to get that player, and it has been proven that players from Borussia Dortmund have been successful with other teams.
