USDT Forum / Tether Produces More Than 2.5 Million Documents to NYAG

iFinex, the parent company of crypto exchange Bitfinex and Tether—issuer of the eponymous stablecoin Tether—has provided millions of documents to the New York Attorney General in regards to its investigation. The state prosecutor’s investigation is into the alleged lack of disclosures over a missing $850 million that was seized by police from its previous banking partner.

The firm asked the New York State Supreme Court for a “few more weeks to produce supplemental information.”

In a letter submitted on January 19, iFinex says it is planning to contact the court in the next 30 days “to either provide a final status update or to schedule a conference to discuss any open items.”

Many people expected that Tether’s legal affairs might have an impact on Bitcoin’s price these days.

By 15 January 2021, iFinex was supposed to submit documentation regarding the case involving Tether’s holding company against New York Attorney General Letitia James.

First of all, it must be said that this case does not directly concern USDt or its actual financial hedging, but a matter related to a shortfall of 850 million dollars in Bitfinex’s accounts, which according to the prosecution was covered by a loan from Tether.

The developers behind Celo, a decentralized digital payments protocol, are plotting the launch of a new stablecoin which will be pegged to the euro.

Marek Olszewski, a partner at cLabs - one of the firms leading the development of the protocol - told The Block there had been a "flurry of activity" in the Celo community around launching a euro stablecoin over the past few months.

Ethereum fees have notched a new all-time high of $1.771 million. IntoTheBlock data shows. The daily gas cost went to 569 Gwei.
Earlier today, the second-largest cryptocurrency soared to $1,162, its highest level since Feb. 1, 2018, before a sharp market correction threw a wrench in the works for the bulls.

Ethereum spiked as high as $1.1k after a 30% advance on Sunday, a level not seen since February 2018.
