A decentralized blockchain project has launched a new contest as it vies to build the next Wikipedia.

Free TON says there are a number of issues that are holding the online encyclopedia project back. It claims that the current rules and social mechanics of Wikipedia actively discourage people from making a contribution — and all this means the community is much smaller than it potentially could be.

Because of this, the site misses out on experienced potential contributors who could have added valuable knowledge.

Some of the issues that Free TON wants to resolve in Freecyclopedia contest include the fact that Wikipedia lacks detailed statistics for analysis — despite the fact that every edit performed on a page is logged. A dearth of such data means that decision-making is based on individual experience and the personal bias of old-timers and administrators. With the main focus on fair and community-driven involvement, the project offers Byzantine Fault Tolerance Governance (BFTg), ensuring the decentralization of the future platform.

There can also be uneven coverage of topics because most people don’t contribute to articles that lie outside of their interests, meaning that there needs to be an effort to ensure communities focus their efforts on underdeveloped pages.

Free TON also claims that the minimum standards for article quality on Wikipedia are low — and many are poorly written, incorrect or outdated. It also claims that the platform takes editorial work for granted, and writers should be better rewarded for their contributions.

Taking on Wikipedia
Free TON is holding its contest in two stages. The first — taking place from June 30 to August 18 — involves creating a specification for decentralized governance, and the second concerns project implementation. The participants can win as much as 165,000 TON, which accounts for $80,000 at press time.

Participants will be expected to come up with a solution that can accommodate multiple distributed authors, a fiscal stimulus for work and a consensus between users to confirm correctness — tasks that the latest-generation blockchains are designed to solve.

Lending is the major driver of the economy. Acknowledging this, the crypto industry is actively creating a fully automatic loan system built on blockchain. Let’s consider some ideas and implementations using the example of the Free TON project’s DeFi development. About DeFi in a broad sense DeFi (Decentralized Finance) is a system of smart contracts built on the principles of decentralized architecture to implement blockchain banking operations, bypassing third parties — banks, brokers, credit institutions.

Decentralized finance includes DEX exchanges, betting markets, and protocols for issuing synthetic assets and derivatives.  DeFi’s main objectives are cryptocurrency-backed lending and liquidity provision by yield farmers. The DeFi implementation carries a number of risks: errors in the smart contract code and in the DefI structure itself. Of course, it all depends on the blockchain they are built on. To minimize the risks, the DeFi launch should be as thoughtful as possible. The most known DeFi projects are MakerDAO, Compound, AAVE.

At the moment, most DeFi projects are built on the Ethereum blockchain. But given the structure, minimal commissions and speed of the Free TON blockchain, if properly implemented, it could become a leader in the DeFi segment. Every crypto project that is built on smart contracts will be sidelined by the industry without the implementation of DeFi services.  The Free TON-Ethereum bridge has been successfully operating on the Free TON blockchain for six months now, opening the doors to all DeFi projects for TON Crystal holders. You can surely use the bridge and enjoy the DeFi implemented on Ethereum, but what about the amount of its commissions, for which Vitalik Buterin’s blockchain is criticized? What if you need to transfer funds to several projects? Expensive! What’s important in Free TON lending services? Flash loans are among the most requested in the DeFi industry.

They create artificial interest for many cryptocurrencies and increase their circulation. However, their implementation as it is done on Ethereum, is impossible on the Free TON blockchain. The community organized a “contest program” to find alternative solutions. Free TON: Essays on Credit Services Contest purpose and rewards The DeFi subgovernance has launched a chain of contests dedicated to building lending services on the Free TON blockchain.

NeverMind the Shitcoins  (or Sh*tcoins, depending how child-friendly the platform!), is an all new cryptocurrency-centric podcast with a panel quiz show twist.

With so much happening on the blockchain battlefields everyday, staying up to date with the latest news and events can drive you bonkers. So we thought, why not take a bunch of clever people, sit them down with some optional drinks, and ask them a bunch of quiz-style questions about what’s going on in the world of magical internet money!?

Our first episode will be recording and (with a little luck from the tech Gods!) broadcast live on Thursday this week (15/7/21), with the far smoother, edited version to go out on all good podcast stores the following day. What better way to make sure you haven’t missed a thing?

As well as topical stuff, we also have a whole bunch of other games, interactive stuff and listener prizes for you to play along and win at home! It’ll be just like the good old days of radio, sort of…

If this isn’t enough to get you excited yet, well, we’re also (trying!) to do a $100 Ethereum giveaway to kick off the action. No catch, just follow the NVMTS Twitter, and retweet the giveaway post. As soon as we reach 100 followers, we’ll pick a winner.

Everscale Forum / Free TON Whitepaper (draft)
« on: August 11, 2021, 10:59:16 AM »

Here is a draft of my version of Free TON Whitepaper. It is a draft so the work is still on going but I feel it is good time to involve the community in the discussion of this vision. You are welcome to comment in this thread.

Abstract
Bitcoin has eliminated trust when conducting peer-to-peer financial transactions by inventing the economic incentives and technology to run a decentralized computer network. Ethereum has invented Turing complete-programming for it, which helped to create more complicated financial instruments, such as tokenized assets, collateralized loans, liquidity pools, synthetic assets. In this paper we describe the architecture, components, governance mechanism and financial model of Free TON — a trustless worldwide operating system. The Operating System of Freedom.

Chapter One
Free TON

We, the undersigned Free TON Community, Validators and Developers, hereby announce the launch of Free TON Blockchain upon the principles and terms stated in this Declaration of Decentralization.
      — The Declaration of Decentralization

Decentralization
Free TON is a decentralized global blockchain network launched on top of TON OS on May 7, 2020. It's important to note that cryptocurrency provides economic incentives to the decentralized computer we call a blockchain and is inseparable from the technology that blockchain is empowered with. Everyone who says otherwise is just protecting outdated values for their own benefit. The reason for this inseparability is the “decentralization” property of the system. The whole raison d'être of a distributed computer technology is its ability to be run by parties which do not need to trust each other. Please note that the emphasis is not on “do not trust” but on “do not need to.” This is a very important and powerful concept. We already have technology which can run distributed systems. These systems can scale, they have sharding, consensus, advanced databases, programming languages, they are proven by many years in production to deliver robust performance. There is just one little thing, one detail, one tiny principle you need to obey in order to use them: you must trust someone who runs them.

That little trust assumption is how we, as a human race, almost surrendered our freedom to a few tech corporations and a handful of government organisations around the world. This trust assumption is almost unilaterally accepted by people as something mandatory to protect them, to provide security guarantees, economy of scale, easy to use interfaces, usability, utility and so on. Let’s call them the conveniences of surrender. The evil gifts.

The inability as a group to protect ourselves which leads to a delegation of powers is a compromise we make with our liberal values. As human beings and as a matter of historic law, any time and every time we have a technical ability to end such compromise — we must.

Mr. Wilhelm Steinitz, the first chess world champion and a founding father of chess theory, has formulated one of the important strategic principles — if a player gains a positional advantage over another it must attack to win. This is no chess game, so the price we pay for losing that game could be catastrophic.

One of the founding fathers of the United States of America, second president John Adams, stated: “Our Consolation must be this, my dear, that Cities may be rebuilt, and a People reduced to Poverty, may acquire fresh Property: But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty once lost is lost forever. When the People once surrender their share in the Legislature, and their Right of defending the Limitations upon the Government, and of resisting every Encroachment upon them, they can never regain it.”

Or if you prefer George Orwell's shorter version: “We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it.” Over 70 years later, we couldn't be any closer to 1984..
Fortunately Satoshi Nakamoto invented the economic incentives and technology for running a decentralized computer network. Such a supposedly simple idea gave human individuals an advantage in the game against a human collective. Ethereum has invented turing complete-programming for it and Free TON has invented its operating system. The Operating System of Freedom, that is. The tool to fight a Borg within us, the conveniences of surrender, the evil gifts.
Meritocratic Token Distribution
One of the most advanced arguments against the trustless system is that such a system, as decentralized as it may seem, is only so on a level of technical and economical properties. That such a network will always scale back into centralization when needed to reach certain decisions (both technical and social) for continuous operations. That once decision making is involved, it necessarily will lead to centralization if the system wants to be somewhat efficient. And despite the efforts of the crypto community to bring decentralization into the protocol governance itself there are still plenty of examples where this argument prevails. For example, Bitcoin is still keeping its software code base in a centralized repository. Very few Ethereum and Bitcoin mining pools control most of the mining power of both networks. The blockchain foundations are everywhere, centrally running core development of their protocols and distributing grants to developers teams. Most of the newer proof-of-stake networks pre-sold their tokens to a few large venture investors and now control their grant system and protocol development. Most of the tokens of leading blockchains are controlled by a very few investors. We will discuss how Free TON tackles all those issues throughout this paper. Let’s start from the most obvious one, how the tokens are distributed in the first place.

One of the problems of proof-of-stake (POS) design is that it requires validators to have a material stake in the network which they would be afraid of losing. This assumption provides a basic game-theory ground behind POS. Participants are motivated to ensure the correctness of the blockchain by the possibility of losing their stakes if they don't.

Usually POS blockchains begin with selling their tokens to future validators to create a starting point of this game economy. For Free TON it was very clear to everybody from the very beginning that we would never sell tokens to anybody. The puzzle that we had to solve was how to distribute the tokens in such a way permitted by the game theory of POS.

I believe we found a revolutionary solution to that problem. It’s something we call Meritocratic Token Distribution (MTD) model. It starts with the community proposing a Contest in which all other members of the community may participate. The contest is discussed and if the community agrees that the end result of this Contest will benefit the community and the network as a whole, the budget for this contest is voted for, the Jury is selected, the participants are providing solutions according to the contest specs, the Jury is voting for the solutions and tokens are distributed to the winners. All those activities are concluded on-chain.
Pareto optimality is achieved as follows: token holders are distributing tokens for the perceived increase of the value of the network. This is obtained through the efforts of different active participants from the decentralized communities which exchange their labor for native network tokens turning them into token holders. Tokens provide an opportunity to participate in all projects that are run on Free TON by having a share of their governance. The Byzantine Fault Tolerance Governance (BFTG) is an ever-evolving set of rules implemented as smart contracts, ensuring that the system is not gamed by all sorts of collusion between all kinds of parties.

So to summarize, instead of minting tokens by burning electricity or for production of empty blocks, the tokens are distributed meritocratically. Of course Free TON is paying for empty block production as well, but the mechanism of such payment is quite different as will be discussed below.
Yet even with probably the most advanced and decentralized method of token distribution, the question remains that if for a right market price (as high as it might be) the tokens will eventually end up with the same crypto investor, what difference does it make how they were distributed in the first place?
The difference between Meritocratic Token Distribution and public or private placement of those tokens are attributed by two facts:

Everscale Forum / How to stake TON Crystal in LUMI Wallet?
« on: August 10, 2021, 10:44:00 AM »

Hello everyone, Kate from LUMI here with excellent news for you! Let’s get started without preludes: TON Crystal staking is now available in LUMI! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

What is staking?
The term “staking” implies reaching a consensus on the state of the blockchain using the Proof-of-Stake algorithm. To do this, any user can send their TON Crystal to a stake, and will begin to receive income for participating in maintaining the network.

Free TON offers 2 main roles.

Validators – support the operation of the virtual server and have a significant amount of TON crystals. The community hosts contests with an award for the most responsible nodes (one of the largest is Magister Ludi). Validators are responsible for computing and signing blocks, must have technical knowledge and provide round-the-clock uptime of their data centers.

Nominators – transfer their TON Crystal to be under the control of the validator. In return, they automatically receive a share of the reward in proportion to their stake. This is a simple method available to every user, and it only requires a wallet with an address in order to stake your TON crystals. Drawing an analogy with the Proof-of-Work Bitcoin algorithm: validators are managers of mining pools, and nominators are individual miners, which easily connect to the pool and use it to increase income, for a small commission.

There are other roles, but to make it easier to understand how the network works, we have highlighted the main ones. If you want to know more, you can visit the official website of Free TON.

How does staking work on the Free TON network?
Staking is available to the community on the light version (without the possibility to choose a DePool).

You give some of your crystals to a DePool. Then they are used in the process of creating new blocks in the blockchain. Simply put, you get a reward because your portion of crystals is used for computing power that provides the operation of the Free TON network. The lock-up period lasts 54 hours (2-3 days), after which the received reward is divided among all the stakeholders in your DePool.

There are several important points:

1. The size of the reward depends on the size of the TON Crystal stakes you have entered;

2. Each DePool has an owner who takes a part of the reward from each user’s reward.

3. Any actions within the Free TON network have a small commission: staking, withdrawing, voting, etс.

4. It is impossible to withdraw the reward back to your wallet instantly. It also takes 54 hours because all the coins must return to circulation.

How does it work in Lumi?
Staking

Everscale Forum / The World Blockchain Conference 2021 in Hangzhou
« on: August 05, 2021, 04:15:59 PM »

The 2021 World Blockchain Conference in Hangzhou was held from July 24 to 25. It gathered representatives of various blockchains and the cryptocurrency world as a whole. The Chinese Subgovernance of Free TON took part in the conference, presenting our blockchain.

About the conference
The conference was held because of the fact that Hangzhou could become the blockchain capital of China, where blockchain technologies could become a strategic source of the digital economy. That is why it was so important to gather enthusiasts in Hangzhou who were able to share their experience in the field of blockchain.

Participation of the Chinese Subgovernance in the conference
On June 18, a proposal that the Chinese Subgovernance could represent Free TON at the conference was made on the forum. The proposal was accepted by the community on a positive basis, because this way of promoting Free TON is excellent. Moreover, the participation of Free TON in the conference could attract not only new users, but also partners.

The Chinese Subgovernance provided a participation plan, which was implemented at the conference. Business cards, banners, booklets, gifts were prepared to design the Free TON booth. The promotion strategy was built on two elements: Free TON as a global community and a technological engine.

What are the results of participation?
It turned out that many conference participants had not heard about Free TON before, but they were very interested in blockchain, learning about it at the conference. Moreover, the developers of the Ballet Wallet cryptocurrency wallet had a discussion regarding integration with Free TON.

As a result, the Chinese Subgovernance managed to attract more than 500 new users and more than 20 new developers.

от 50 и более публикаций на английском языке;
не менее ⅔ всех публикаций должны быть о проекте Free TON;
не менее ⅔ всех публикаций должны быть уникальными;
связь с экосистемой Free TON (ссылки);
уникальный дизайн;

150 000 (50 000 + 50 000 + 50 000) TON Crystal
105 000 (35 000 + 35 000 + 35 000) TON Crystal
75 000 (25 000 + 25 000 + 25 000) TON Crystal
45 000 (15 000 + 15 000 + 15 000) TON Crystal
30 000 (10 000 + 10 000 + 10 000) TON Crystal

Everscale Forum / Contests and Hackathons in Blockchain
« on: August 04, 2021, 05:52:58 PM »

Cryptocurrency companies use certain strategies to attract users, developers and investors. Various types of activity contribute to the development of their ecosystem: hackathons, tournaments and contests. What contests are held by Solana, Near, Cosmos and FreeTON? Let's take a look at the largest and most ambitious events.

$1 Million from Solana Blockchain

Solana Season, which ran from May 15 to June 7, 2021, is one of the largest hackathons in IT history. More than 13,000 developers took part in the event, and 350 projects were presented to the jury. The event was hosted by the Solana Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of Solana. Hackathon goals: • selection and implementation of the best DeFi, NFT, Web3 project in the Solana ecosystem; • attracting users and developers to the Solana blockchain

The prize pool of $ 1 million was distributed among 39 teams.

The Grand Prize Winner of the Solana Season Hackathon was Zeta, an under-collateralized DeFi options platform built on the Solana blockchain. The team received $ 30,000 and a special prize - two tickets to the Solana event in Lisbon and $ 1,500 for a flight. The best DeFi Project was Solend, an algorithmic decentralized protocol for lending and borrowing. The prize was $ 20,000. The best NFT Project was Coral Reef, an NFT marketplace with the ability to Fractionalize. The prize was $ 20,000. The best Web3 project was Solarium, a decentralized, end-to-end encrypted, censorship-resistant instant messenger based on the Solana blockchain. The team received $ 20,000. The Community Choice Award went to Boring Protocol, a decentralized VPN service on the Solana blockchain. The project includes a P2P marketplace and provides traffic anonymity. The team received $ 5,000.

$50 for each participant and more for the winners From The Cosmos Blockchain

HackAtom RU 2021 is an event organized by Tendermint, Citizen Cosmos and Cyber Academy. More than 150 developers participated in this marathon.

Hackathon goals:

• development of the Cosmos ecosystem using DeFi, NFT projects and the IBC protocol

• translation of Cosmos documentation into Russian

The main prize pool was $ 20,000.

$8,000 - for the development of a DeFi product using IBC.

$5,000 - for the best NFT product on the Cosmos blockchain.

$5,000 - for creating a product using IBC.

$1,000 - for winning the Community Choice category Participants who completed the tasks of sponsors received special prizes.

The sponsorship prize pool was $ 25,000.

Each contestant received a $ 50 Cosmos store certificate.

First and Budget Option From Near Hack the Rainbow is the first hackathon on the Near blockchain.

More than 400 developers took part in the competition, and more than 80 applications were submitted.

The main goal of the competition is to create projects that interact with the Rainbow Bridge cross-chain solution to provide interaction between the Ethereum and Near ecosystems.

The YNEAR project was recognized as the best solution. YNEAR uses the Rainbow Bridge to create derivatives based on NEAR betting. Users can earn yNEAR tokens by staking NEAR tokens on specific validators, and the yNEAR amount is adjusted to accumulate validator rewards. By transferring yNEAR to Ethereum through the Rainbow Bridge, token holders can take advantage of the diverse capabilities of DeFi projects. A small commission in the form of validator rewards will be collected into the treasury, with the help of which all holders of yNEAR tokens can participate in governance and project initiatives.

The prize for the first place was 10,000 NEAR tokens + 1,000 DAI - about $ 22,000 at the time of the article's release.

In addition, teams that developed the following solutions received 6,000 NEAR + 6,000 DAI tokens (about $ 14,000) each:

• AMM-NEARswap protocol. Allows users to safely and efficiently exchange NEAR and Ethereum assets

• NEARBook is a chain order book implemented using the Rust programming language. By “chain” we mean that the matching mechanism is implemented as a smart contract on the nearest blockchain. He is using the Rainbow Bridge to leverage Ethereum assets in the NearBook.

• Advanced Fungible is a modern, safe and convenient token standard for the NEAR protocol. Aims at fixing some of the issues with previous token implementations, especially ERC-20 and NEP-21.

• Intoo TV is a platform for live broadcasting in P2P format.

• Influences is a decentralized social network that allows fans to follow specific influencers for a monthly fee.

• Vital Point-DAO - Moloch v2 port for NEAR that can be whitelisted or integrated with any NEP-21 token.

More than 150 Contests per Year and Huge Prizes from Free TON Blockchain

During the year, about 160 contests of various levels of complexity and specialization were held in the Free TON community: from the Free TON video presentation contest to the development of NFT platforms. Validator tournaments, development, design, testing contests - these tools are used by the Free TON ecosystem to create a meritocratic community management system. Rewards are paid in the native currency Free TON - TON Crystal.

Here are some examples of recent and upcoming competitions.

Background and Description
=nil; Foundation as an initial member of Free TON community developed an upgraded version of TON Virtual Machine, which includes cryptographic primitives required for usage zero knowledge proof verification within the virtualized applications. =nil; Foundation also prepared C++ (GitHub - NilFoundation/cpp-ton: Cryptography-enhanced Telegram Open Network Protocol C++ Implementation) and Rust-y (GitHub - NilFoundation/rust-ton: Cryptography-enhanced Telegram Open Network Protocol Rust Implementation) ZK proof verification instruction-enhanced TON protocol implementations.

A test protocol instance was launched using the C++ ZK proof verification instruction-enhanced implementation. Network configuration used for the contest is available at: ton-proof-verification-contest/testnet.config.json at master · NilFoundation/ton-proof-verification-contest · GitHub.

ZKP test network visualization is available at https://live.freeton.nil.foundation 1 and at https://nil.ton.live.

Before the Free TON community will be able to patch a mainnet node-clients this ZKP clients should be tested for security and stability.

This document proposes the first in a series of “ZKP contests” aiming motivation of Free TON developer community to try prepared tools and to crowdsource simple ZKP use cases for testing purposes.

Instructions for participants
Participants are expected to create any trivial sample case which uses Groth16 proofs.

Contest repository (aka place to start) is available at: https://github.com/nilfoundation/ton-proof verification-contest

Advanced proof generation and circuit definition documentation is available at: Crypto3 Cryptography Suite.

General requirements
Solutions provided are expected:

● To be a correctly functioning FreeTON LSCS deployed on a test network (https://live.freeton.nil.foundation 1)

● Not to be a TONCash-alike or any anonymous transactions/token proposal. There is a separate contest for that.

● To involve VERGRTH16 TVM instruction usage.

● To contain circuit definitions done (preferably) with =nil; Crypto3 Blueprint library (GitHub - NilFoundation/crypto3-blueprint: Component module for =nil; Foundation's Zero-Knowledge Cryptography) or as a formal statement.

● To contain proving/verifying key and the statement being proved (primary and auxiliary inputs).

Evaluation criteria and winning conditions
● Apart from uploading a submission, a code should be submitted in accordance with GitHub - freeton-org/readme.

● A participant should do a presentation of her solution at a convenient time agreed with DevEx members. A solution should include tests with clear instructions.

● If a test does not cover some scenarios, then jury members can develop their own tests, but it should reduce such a submission score.

● The solution should have an open source license.

● The solution has to comply with formal requirements introduced by the instructions for jury members.

● Each submission should be rated by jury members based on its:

○ Easy to use

○ Suitability for real use

○ Innovativeness

○ Complexity

○ Tests completeness

Reward
Only submissions with an average score equal to or more than 4.0 can get a reward.

1th place … 35,000 TONs

2th place … 30,000 TONs

3th place … 25,000 TONs

4th place … 20,000 TONs

5th place … 15,000 TONs

6th place … 10,000 TONs

7-10th place … 5,000 TONs

Note: If the number of winning submissions is less than the number of rewards available, any remaining rewards are not subject to distribution and are considered void.

Free TON
« on: July 31, 2021, 01:32:58 PM »

Free TON.

The advent of Bitcoin brought the possibility of developing blockchain networks to create a decentralized payment system that could run without requiring an intermediary or a central entity. However, there was a lot more that developers could do with blockchains. It led to the creation of new blockchain networks that were more scalable than Bitcoin and allowed the development of a whole ecosystem of decentralized financial applications.

However, the problem with these blockchains was they did not have a way to talk to each other. Since they could not interact, the blockchain and crypto community got divided, with each member preferring networks that worked best for them. In order to unite the crypto community and build an interoperable future of blockchains, various initiatives have been taken over the years. One of them is the blockchain bridge.

What are Blockchain Bridges and How They Work?
A blockchain bridge connects two different blockchain networks to provide a compatible way to interoperate securely on both sides. Using these bridges, users and developers can transfer tokens or arbitrary data from one blockchain to another. In decentralized finance (DeFi) space, blockchain bridges allow users to access the perks of different blockchain networks without sacrificing the benefits of the host chain. It brings in several use cases, including cross-chain collateral, better scalability of networks, and reduced transaction fees.

Most bridges work on a mint-and-burn protocol. It means when a token is transferred from one blockchain to another, the underlying protocol first burns the token and then mint an equivalent token on the other blockchain. Essentially, bridges are of two types: centralized and decentralized. While centralized bridges rely on an intermediary to facilitate transactions between two networks, decentralized bridges operate on their own because they run according to their smart contracts. In the case of centralized bridges, a protocol makes someone a part of an authority that manages and reviews all transactions. This process varies from project to project.

On the other hand, decentralized bridges run through a distributed network of participants that validates the transaction. In exchange for overseeing bridge transactions, these participants are incentivized to ensure they act in the system's best interest.

Bridges in Operation

Free Ton Bridge
Though Ethereum gas fees are not as costly as they were a few weeks ago, they are still high for most users. Free Ton solves Ethereum's gas and scalability issues since it allows users to transfer assets from the Ethereum network to its own blockchain where fees are near-zero and transactions are done at a much faster rate.
