Short-term investing in Bitcoin carries the highest risk, as buying Bitcoin for a short period of time can cause the market to dump at any time. That's why it's normal for that investor to experience losses at any time but whenever you invest in Bitcoin for two to three years or more, your logic will be much less and the benefits will be more.
You need to define long-term and short-term.
I consider long-term to just be a few years at least, like 3 or 4 years. You don't have to wait for decades like you do with these fiat stocks, bonds, treasuries, index funds and so on.
With people being more impatient than ever before though, most people can't even wait a few months before emptying their bags, so that's some real short-term loss.
