What is the best altcoin right now that can surpass Bitcoin in the future?

I honestly don't think any of them can surpass bitcoin, of the coins that are available right now.  The biggest reason people trust bitcoin so much is because it's been around for a long time and hasn't screwed anyone over.  All these other coins, lots of them have serious drawbacks.  Like take Ripple for instance, the dev team for Ripple has 55% of the total supply of coins.  If they decided to sell them, the entire coin price would collapse in a matter of days.  They are unlocking 1 billion per month, for the next 55 months and at that point it can be dumped anytime.  This is sort of an extreme example, of course, but there's nothing stopping any of these tokens from being a scam and just running off with all the money.  Bitcoin isn't even an exception to that, but like I said, it hasn't happened yet and it hit $20k per coin.  At the very least you know it's safe up to that point.  Just my two cents.

Since the last quarter of 2017, I've encountered too many questions with regard to this subject, and some of the answers pointing to Ethereum, it's the number one contender they say for various reasons, which I can no longer recall. But, still, I don’t think Ethereum or any of the 1580+ altcoins (still counting) we have today could surpass Bitcoin in the future. The number one contender for bitcoin is Ethereum, ethereum is already widely known and useable for many aspect, i think after ethereum change to POS coin the price will rise

For now only ethereum have that potential as the next bitcoin in the future but I am not totally convince that it will for it is far different to bitcoin.

surpassing bitcoin very hard, the best i can think of is ethereum, it has great attribute and use. But bitcoin is number one and will be very hard to surpass

I don't think they need to compete with each other. all will be well if one would complement the other. then they are hard

it seems not alcoin remains that much but later on in the future will definitely be a draw with bitcoin just a thin difference

Ethereum is an one of the altcoins that look promising and gaining wider acceptance but i still doubt it can surpass the mother coin bitcoin

As far as I know there no altcoins today and even in the coming years that can surpass bitcoin. This is how bitcoin is powerful.

I don't think any will pass bitcoin, but if i had to pick one I'd probably pick Stellar Lumens.. I think the fundamentals are there with partnerships and huge upside to really continue rallying for years....my dark horse pick would be Monero if things get really really bad.. or as a joke pick.. Ethereum is really doing well and coming up. It has great potential and because of smart contracts, it is used by a lot of projects lately. The price is going up though but it cannot surpase bitcoin.
