Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: Are ICOs gonna end someday ?
« on: October 14, 2018, 04:58:38 AM »
Technology and markets evolve, it is inevitable that ICOs will end at some point. They basically came out of nowhere, so make your money while you can, or get ready to change course to the next opportunity. I find it hard to believe that many people are making a living just on bounties anyway, although I'm sure there's a fair few out there. Anyone who has the skills to do the translations or content bounties will surely be able to make a decent living doing the same in another industry. Plenty of work for those kind of skills. Posting on social media, not so much.

There's no set strategy, but it's always a sensible move to ladder out your profits. I tend to sell at least 50% of my holding if it goes up 20%, then gradually sell out until I am holding only 10% in case it has a huge jump. If a particular coin has a 100% or more rise in a very short space of time, I will sell 90%, as generally it will drop sharply afterwards, giving the opportunity to get back in if I want to. If it doesn't drop, then I'm (normally) happy enough with the profit and move on to the next one.

Cryptocurrency Trading / Re: When to trade altcoins?
« on: October 13, 2018, 05:36:11 AM »
It's always worth looking out for coins that are approaching key dates on their road map, as you can often turn a quick profit if you get in at the right time. As to which coins to specifically look out for, I like to select a range of coins that have experienced high volatility in the past, and then investigate further to see which ones have decent liquidity and have been a bit quieter recently. Picked up a couple of winners that way.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: What to do in this Dip
« on: October 13, 2018, 05:31:53 AM »
I have invested along the way, at various price points, and will continue to do so as and when I have the funds available. Whilst I think some coins will fail, I am reasonably confident that I have selected a number of coins with good potential, so hopefully overall will come out on top. Will I be able to retire? Doubtful. But hopefully can make a bit of money over the next few years.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: The most expensive cryptocurrency
« on: October 13, 2018, 05:28:46 AM »
Being expensive doesn't necessarily make something valuable. I would much rather invest in one Bitcoin than the equivalent value of a more expensive coin. All down to personal choice though, just seems like a much higher risk when the trading volume is nowhere near Bitcoin's.

Overall the market has remained reasonably steady for a while now (in crypto terms anyway), so it looks like it's gearing up for a big move one way or the other. As to whether that is up or down is, unfortunately, not for me to decide, but here's hoping that it's in a positive direction.

I guess it is sometimes down to the fact that blockchain didn't add value to the project, as it wasn't necessary to the function it was being used for. It has become almost 'fashionable' for companies to say they are 'on the blockchain', without any real thought as to how it improves the project.

I'd much prefer a steady consistent rise than a rocket movement, would be much more beneficial for the overall market in the long term. If we see another rapid jump it will more than likely be followed by another drastic drop. Currently there are a number of coins available at decent prices, with huge potential down the line, but no specific timeline of December/January. Neo, Stratis, Chainlink and Divi are all worth taking a look at. And Icon is another one that has plenty of room for growth.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: Which exchanger is good for altcoin?
« on: October 13, 2018, 05:09:59 AM »
Unfortunately KYC seems to becoming more prevalent, especially with the AML regulations in many countries, but there are still exchanges which don't require it (at least up to a certain amount anyway). I use a number of exchanges, some of which required at least a minimal form of identification, and that didn't. If it's a key issue for you, it might be worth looking at Changelly, although it's not one I personally use on a regular basis.

i was a member for a year but still a newbie.

That can't be true, the merit system only started in January on Bitcointalk. Unless you contributed absolutely nothing to the forum before it was introduced and then suddenly realised that you had to if you wanted to earn through bounties. Not saying that you're entirely wrong, but sounds a bit like sour grapes to me. I am a member on both forums and see benefits (and flaws) in both systems. Both forums offer opportunities to earn through bounties, but the main benefit is giving and receiving value. Altcoinstalks is a much newer forum, and therefore have presumably have been able to learn from mistakes that bitcointalk made, as well as add in additional features that they felt added to the community. All the best.

Forum related / Re: Why do people still make low quality comments?
« on: October 07, 2018, 04:19:11 AM »
Repetition seems to be an issue too, I often see almost identical threads with people writing generic comments. If the search engine was utilised, this could be vastly improved and it would be easier to navigate to the most relevant thread. Not sure whether this comes down to lack of knowledge regarding the search function (or using the forum in general), laziness or apathy.

Trading is not easy money, reading your post you seem to think that you will make a living instantly. This will not happen. Get your head down and start learning, there are plenty of resources both here on the forum and elsewhere. Forget about day trading to start with, you need to learn the basics first. As someone already mentioned, there are platforms where you can do demo trading without risking any capital. Don't try and run before you can walk, otherwise you will end up crying very quickly. Good luck.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: Coinmarketcap vs Traders
« on: October 06, 2018, 06:42:24 AM »
I doubt (hopefully) that any serious traders use coinmarketcap as anything other than maybe a quick check for rough price movements, and possibly coin liquidity when comparing exchanges. If you dig around the features, there is plenty of good information, but it really doesn't help anyone other than casual investors, and (in my opinion) definitely not if you are day trading. The website tradingview.com is a decent website for getting into, and could be worth investing in one of the paid subscriptions if you're looking to make regular trades, although the free version is perfectly adequate for learning the ropes.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: Why does scam succeed?
« on: October 06, 2018, 06:36:33 AM »
As most people seem to agree, one of the main factors is greed. So many of us want to get rich quick without putting in the time and effort, making ourselves easy targets for scammers. It gets a bit more complicated as the scammers are upping their game, spending more money to create a false sense of legitimacy to lure unsuspecting investors in. It really comes down to how people need to be ultra careful when they invest their money, far too many are willing to invest in a pipe dream; projects with no MVP, a poorly written white paper, lack of team information and more. Even a quick check on google will normally throw up some red flags, especially if you go more in depth on forums. I normally google the project name plus reviews, and that's just for starters. It's a jungle out there.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: Trading alt coins. Best platform.
« on: October 05, 2018, 05:02:38 AM »
There are loads of platforms out there for trading, all depends on which coin you're looking to trade. Best to decide which ones you're specifically interested in and then select the platform depending on availability, active pairs, fees and liquidity. Don't just look on generic review sites, go onto the individual platforms and do the research. You will probably have to set up accounts on multiple platforms, some that are good for new(er) coins seem to be Huobi, Kucoin, Cryptopia, Binance, Cobinhood and more. Good luck.
