Title: Do you think Russia will ban cryptocurrencies?
Post by: Freemind on January 26, 2022, 12:33:10 PM
As we have seen in various press articles, forums and even TV shows, Russia will ban cryptocurrency trading within its borders. Do you think that something similar to what happened with China for several years will happen or that the Russian government will apply it as quickly as possible with all the restrictions?. I am thinking that maybe it will happen like in India where they decided to ban crypto but then the government decided to discuss it again.

What do you think?.

I think that everything will depend on how the political situation in the world with respect to Russia will develop.  Quite a few times there have been statements that the sanctions will increase, and there may be a time when Russian business cannot use dollar settlements due to the ban.  Perhaps this period will be a turning point for Russia, which will lead to the government allowing the use of cryptocurrency.  for people, it is necessary now to focus on various kinds of platforms for buying various goods, as well as for paying with cryptocurrency as a means of payment, such as the CratD2C project.

There are several rumors in the market some says they will ban and some say they will regulate it but exactly we don't know what is going to happen in my opinion, if they want to ban cryptocurrencies they would do it a long time back so I think they will regulate it with some conditions. Rest it depends on the political approach of the ruling party if they consider it optimistically so we can expect some positive news from Russia.

If the government decided to ban cryptocurrencies then the market will definitely go down because of course many of them were investors in cryptocurrencies but this doesn't mean that this is the end of crypto market, I'm sure that it can survive without those big countries as long people still investing it. Well let's just hope that the government of Russia will not banning cryptos.

If the Putin regime continues to exist for a long time with or without it, then it is quite possible that the circulation of cryptocurrency in Russia will be completely prohibited. While there are different opinions regarding cryptocurrency and there is no single approach to it yet. The Central Bank of Russia wants to ban cryptocurrency, the Ministry of Finance is in favor of its further regulation. This year there should make a final decision. To a large extent, the adoption of this decision will depend on the degree of rights and freedoms of citizens in this country.

Nearly possible as we can see the seriousness of government to try it on. But, for me this kinda approach would be all about trying the favor to win to win. When Russia will ban cryptocurrency we know the possible thing to happen. The market might be affected which bloody is possible. I assume time to buy cryptos secretly to hold some power and manipulation to prepare for bigger picture in the future where we can see the world is getting into digital world and also the digital power to standout over the other competitors, IMO.

President Putin has just spoken on this matter, and we don't need to worry too much about the fate of crypto in Russia. Russia has the upper hand in crypto mining, it will not give this advantage and profit to other countries. Russia wants to regulate and tax earnings from the crypto market.

Right now I think the Russian government has much more important things on the table, like the conflict with Ukraine. I do not think that for the next few weeks or months we will see news (official news, not rumors) about cryptocurrencies from Russia again. It's ironic, because Russia faces arguably the biggest sanctions of most countries in the world and by using cryptocurrencies they could avoid many of those sanctions. This time Russia reminds me what happens with India, the governments do not know what decision to make and everything implies a long wait.

As of now, there is no clear-cut policy yet coming from Kremlin on matters of cryptocurrency and can be because Putin and his people are too busy doing the suspense show in the Ukraine border. personally, I am hoping that somehow there can be a way the government will provide that will recognize cryptocurrency even in a very limited parameters but then again one thing for sure is if Russia can enter into the crypto scene it can be the new source of FUDs which was played by China so well until it totally ban crypto and mining for good last year.

Probably this is the right decision on the legalization and control of cryptocurrencies in Russia, they will probably cancel the cryptocurrency. Most countries already make their own cryptocurrency for fast transfers.

I don't think it's that simple actually. If many countries with greater political and geostrategic weight ban cryptocurrencies, smaller countries could be "forced" to do the same. We live in a world where political and economic sanctions (whether or not they are legal at the international level) occur on a daily basis, and that could be a threat to countries with weaker economies. Anyway I think we will have to wait for more news, Russia has more important things to worry about right now.

It seems that the Russian government and the Central Bank of this country really agreed and want to legalize cryptocurrency as a means of payment, although a little earlier the Central Bank was categorically against this and called for a ban on its mining and circulation. In Russia, it was said that the legalization of crypto-currency would give the state many billions of dollars in tax revenue.

There will be no ban in Russia, as neighboring countries look to Russia. What is happening in Russia is happening in the CIS countries. This must be taken into account. No, in my opinion, there will be no complete ban on bitcoin in Russia, because a law has recently been introduced on the taxation and use of cryptocurrencies in Russia.

Russia is still considering how to do it correctly so that they feel good and the ban is not so wasteful. Everyone will use other IP addresses to use cryptocurrency, it will probably be very difficult to do.

Recently, the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Russia have stated that they are in favor of the regulation of cryptocurrency, its legalization and recognition as a means of payment. This is a little surprising to me, since the Central Bank has always adopted a tough policy of banning cryptocurrencies, citing the fact that the Constitution of the Russian Federation provides that the only means of payment in Russia is the ruble.
This is good information for cryptocurrencies, and if they don’t change their attitude towards cryptocurrencies once again, then prices should now go up, which, in fact, is already happening.

Finally, the Russian government is thinking of doing the opposite, legalizing cryptocurrencies and allowing banks to sell them. So far the only thing we know is that a draft has been sent to present the proposal, there are no details about taxes or anything yet, but if that law is finally passed, it would be a revolution for the cryptocurrency industry. Russia has legalized Bitcoin, and this is great news.  I want this to be positive news for bitcoin and crypto in general. Russia is a big country, which has influence in all fields on the European continent, with this good decision it will make it easier for the people there to carry out all crypto activities. Even though it will be heavily taxed, I don't think it will be a problem.

I hope soon we will witness Russia will also legalize crypto-like El Salvador did till then we have to wait.

I believe that the decision change may be due to these two reasons. The Russian government knows what it is facing if the conflict with Ukraine does not end soon, almost all the countries of the European Union and the United States would apply very strong economic sanctions. By allowing cryptocurrencies to flow legally in Russia, the government would receive a lot of money in taxes, and in this way these sanctions would not affect the Russian economy as much. But I also think it's possible that the first news, the cryptocurrency ban, was just a "test" to see how the international community would react.

The actions of Russia's top officials are very difficult to predict. We remember how positively, but at the same time, and contradictoryly, Putin, Medvedev and other Russian officials spoke about the cryptocurrency, but in the end, how bad the law on digital assets was adopted there for the cryptos. Therefore, I no longer really believe their words, one must judge only their actions. They will adopt a corresponding law in Russia, and then we'll see.

In reality, they won't ban crypto, instead to make it as a currency. I don't know what they are planning, but they are like playing with us. They spread bad news first, then they announce good news. Not sure what to happen in the near future, but looks like they won't ban Bitcoin or crypto as we ever heard previously. It may not be like in El Salvador, but it could be more or less similar. Whether war breaks out or not (I hope not), Russia could face very severe economic and geopolitical sanctions from the United States and many countries in the European Union. By somehow “adopting” cryptocurrencies, those sanctions could have less of an effect by being able to collect a lot of money in taxes from cryptocurrencies, although there are many factors that we must take into account, such as percentages.

Russia was one of the country who adopted the cryptocurrency for a couple of years, and I don't think they can do that in my own assessment. It is because they have a lot of merchant over their country who already adopted the concept system of the altcoins and these merchants gave and helped to the government in Russia in terms of economy.

Russia has been on the sidelines while many of its neighboring countries banned crypto. However, according to reports, the Russian government has been planning to regulate crypto in the country, instead of placing a complete crypto ban bill.

Crypto assets are quite prominent in the world and banning crypto-related operations and services can be an unbeneficial step.
Therefore, while the government in the country has been trying to devise crypto regulations, a federal ministry in Russia has made another proposal.

As far as I know the Russian people are one of the big supporters of this Cryptocurrency, on Cryptocurrency forums I found how enthusiastic they are in discussing Crypto.
The Russian government itself once said it would ban Crypto, but it didn't last long because then they said they would regulate it but there are some conditions that apply.
If I may have an opinion, in the near future Russia will soon accept Crypto but there will be many rules that will be applied there.

Don't overdo it in responding to negative news about crypto in my opinion, because the more you look for info, the more you will hesitate to start
because prohibition is just the word PROHIBITION in crypto the more banned the more enthusiasts

We have more news about the current situation of cryptocurrencies in Russia. Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said two days ago on a TV channel:

Quote
We hope disagreements could be ironed out and a bill regulating cryptocurrencies passed by the end of the year. He said the government would take the final decision.

It seems that they want to continue talking until they reach an agreement with the different parties, but if an agreement is not 100% possible, it will be the Moscow government that decides in the last instance. I hope that finally this agreement is possible and Russia can have a good regulation for cryptocurrencies.

there was a development this year that allow traders buy but they cant purchase more than $8000. I dont know if that is the limitation is for a single purchase or the whole purchase/holdings. If it is the whole purchase what happens to holders when the price pump beyond the price and if the limitation is for a day than it is a conservative for anyone interested

They will never succeed in doing that, but if the country shuts down the internet, the situation will be different, without a ban from the Russian government, crypto would be useless without the internet.
I wish crypto could be accepted in some countries, why? because every country takes the blockchain technology and idea that is in Bitcoin, I think the Russian state will make regulations for cryptocurrency, and to keep investors from their country safe.

It seems that Putin in Russia has infected everyone there with his constant lies and change of position in the international arena. Until yesterday, Putin demanded that Ukraine comply with the Minsk agreements, while for some reason he did not want to comply with their first clause on the withdrawal of his troops from the occupied part of Donbas, after which their other conditions must also be fulfilled. And yesterday, Russia recognized the occupied territories of Ukraine as two independent republics, and immediately after that, Putin sent his troops to this territory of Ukraine.
Now I read that French President Macron was very offended by Putin, because the day before he promised something completely different.
Now the world is on the verge of a major war, which could escalate into the Third World War. How this will affect the cryptocurrency in Russia and in general in this region, time will tell. But while the cryptocurrency market is falling, and the price of gold is rising.

Yeah, I think Russi will have regulation for crypto currency, As you said it will be like in India.
Banned then make regulation to take the tax.
It's not problem for crypto holder and trader.
We will still do transaction use VON or proxy, why we must confused.
No, crypto will exist although being banned in country.

I agree with this, the government will make regulation to tak ethe tax. But It also good for countries development because can get income from crypto currency.
They will allow and get income from the tax.

It won't and won't be possible for Russia to ban cryptocurrencies because Russia is a powerhouse for mining cryptocurrencies.
Russia has sufficient electricity and sophisticated computer equipment and will certainly be able to use that equipment to mine Bitcoin.
So why is cryptocurrency banned in Russia? Is this a joke? I think this is just a diversion of rumors so that the price of cryptocurrencies is dumped and more by the whales!

The government will have income from tax and crypto holder can do transaction legally there.

I think no one has ever talked about shutting down the Internet. No one in the Russian government would agree to shut down the Internet, but not only because of cryptocurrencies, but because of the need for the Internet for almost everything today. Stores could not sell online, banks could not work, public administrations could not carry out procedures... I believe that due to the current problems in Russia, everything can be delayed, but I also believe that the government will end up approving the draft presented by the Minister of Finance.

Two days after the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, when other states saw that Ukraine put up such fierce resistance (destroying three and a half thousand invaders, more than a hundred tanks and other military equipment in the first two days alone) that it is capable of stopping the aggressor itself, the civilized world has united and is taking measures for the virtual complete isolation of Russia, as well as military, financial and economic assistance to Ukraine.
The Russian Federation has and will continue to have a host of various global problems that put it on the brink of survival. Only from the latest sanctions after the open attack on Ukraine, Russia is losing about 20 billion dollars every day. If they decide to use cryptocurrency at the state level, it will be able to develop. True, the Putin regime is accustomed to dividing its population into categories and granting them different rights. The bulk of the population will probably be banned from using cryptocurrency. Because of the imposed sanctions, they are already talking about the possibility of confiscation of citizens' deposits in Russian banks. Therefore, they will be afraid that capital will leave Russia through cryptocurrency.

The current position of the Russian state is in a war with Ukraine and the two countries are also clashing arms in these wars which in fact spend billions of USD for weapons and various weapons of war that have been destroyed.
I mean, to make up for the lack of effects of this war, I definitely saw in online media that these two countries accepted donations for paying cryptocurrencies, so what should the Russian state ban if it's like this?

Putin and his elite live a completely different life and different interests than ordinary citizens of Russia. Therefore, the cryptocurrency will be completely legalized if it is in the interests of the ruling political elite. As we see from recent events, they do not think about their citizens at all. They can return to cryptocurrency there if it is possible to bypass the latest tough international sanctions related to the military invasion of Ukraine with its help. In Russia, senior officials and representatives of relevant authorities periodically speak absolutely contradictory about the fate of cryptocurrency in this country. Recently, the leadership of the Central Bank of Russia has taken a tough stance on banning cryptocurrency, and the Ministry of Finance is in favor of allowing and regulating it. Sometimes in the State Duma various controversial bills regarding cryptocurrency appear, but I am only interested in the laws that have come into force.
Now a very interesting situation has developed in Russia in connection with the application of the most severe sanctions in connection with the armed attack of its 120,000-strong army on Ukraine. This will speed up either the legalization of cryptocurrency, or its ban.

I think the same, there is a possibility of that happening. But it may be that the Russian government reaches agreements with the Chinese government to avoid the sanctions imposed. The Kremlin could avoid sanctions by doing its regular business through Chinese companies, but it could also use crypto so it doesn't have to rely on any other country. The Russian government has several options on the table, they can use some of those options, all of them, or none of them.

The Putin regime is probably not up to cryptocurrency now. After the large-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, and especially after the most severe sanctions imposed for it, and even huge losses in manpower and equipment due to this war, Putin is now convulsively grabbing power and doing everything possible to make the people less aware of this information. . They have already turned off Facebook and Twitter, and now they want to turn off the Internet altogether. What do you think, will Russia fully legalize cryptocurrency with the Internet turned off and with restrictions on withdrawing money from banks and restrictions on exporting currency abroad? On the contrary, a complete ban on cryptocurrencies is possible there, so that capital does not leave Russia.

Although in Russia many politicians have spoken differently about cryptocurrency and its future, a law has been passed there that significantly limits the free circulation of cryptocurrency and is one of the worst in Europe and in other regions of the world. The fact that Russia has now unleashed an aggressive war in Ukraine and is gradually suffering a military defeat in it will certainly have a huge impact on cryptocurrency within Russia itself in the future. And I don't think it's for the best. Isolation from the outside world due to international sanctions will force the government to take active measures to prevent capital from leaving the country. And cryptocurrency just contributes to this. Therefore, it would be more logical to assume that the cryptocurrency in Russia will be banned or severely limited in circulation.

The introduction of a ban on cryptocurrency in Russia is absolutely possible. A general ban will apply to citizens, because the authorities need capital not to leave Russia. There are no laws written for the government itself. Under any laws, they can use cryptocurrency to circumvent sanctions, but they are unlikely to make this information public.
In order to get around the sanctions on the sale of oil, Russia needs not only to hide the settlements on this deal, but also to hide the fact of the real movement of the oil being sold. And this is quite difficult.

In the context of Russia's general isolation from the outside world due to aggression against Ukraine, threats of attacks against the Baltic republics, ever-increasing sanctions that seem to be taken for a long time because Russia does not want to stop its aggressive actions, many wealthy Russians will seek to leave this country, which will increasingly sink into poverty, unemployment and crime. The government of Russia, of course, will prevent this in every possible way, because the birth rate of the population has already fallen menacingly and will fall ever lower due to increasing domestic turmoil and falling living standards. Also, the government will be forced to take the most drastic measures to prevent capital flight from the country. Therefore, the prohibition of cryptocurrency looks logical, because with its free use, capital from Russia can no longer be stopped.

Russia should be able to use cryptocurrency to become one of the digital currencies that can make it easier to conduct transactions between countries that are used to purchase gas or oil, which are the main commodities in Russia to distribute oil to various countries. So the russians can take advantage of moments like this to buy as many cryptocurrencies as they can and become the masters of bitcoin.

Exactly, it seems that the Russian government is in a similar situation to that of India, they seem to know the benefits and freedoms that cryptocurrencies and blobkchain provide but they have not made a decision one way or the other. It is possible that not making any decision is a strategy, but I doubt it considering the large number of economic blocks and sanctions that they are receiving, if the war continues and Russia remains economically strangled, we may see a decision by the Russian government.

In Russia, decisions are made not by crypto-fans, but by the current Putin regime, which does not care about the opinion of the people. Therefore, one of the worst laws regarding cryptocurrencies is currently in force there, because its free circulation as a means of payment is prohibited there. In the context of the attack on Ukraine and the protracted war with it, as well as the imposition of harsh international sanctions, foreign investors, as well as wealthy Russians, are leaving Russia, who see no further prospects for development in this country. Therefore, the task of the authorities will be to prevent the outflow of capital from the country. Therefore, cryptocurrency is likely to be banned, because it will contribute to the outflow of capital from Russia.

There are many articles that talk about this possibility, but there are also other articles that talk about the opposite. In fact, I think that the Russian government does not know what to do with cryptocurrencies, some talk about banning mining but not the use of cryptocurrencies, and others talk about banning both options. The only thing we can do is wait until they have made a decision, they are at the same point as India, they don't know what to do.

I think that this will depend on the state of the Russian economy as a result of the imposition of unprecedented international sanctions on it. Right now it's bad, and it's only going to get worse. The government will be forced to take measures to ensure that people and capital do not leave this country doomed to poverty and loneliness. Just one of these measures could be the prohibition of the use of cryptocurrency, with which it will be very easy to bypass all the barriers created by the government. But let's see if there will be time to pay attention to cryptocurrency at all.

These types of decisions are always made by high-ranking government officials, and although they don't know much about the subject, they always have highly qualified advisors who tell them the good and the bad in each case. Russian Finance Minister, Anton Siluanov, probably doesn't know what a hash is or how to mine Ethereum, but he has plenty of expert advisors, from there he must make a decision one way or another, after that Putin has the last word by signing the documents approving the new laws.

Do not confuse the interests of the authorities in Russia and the interests of its people. Yes, the people are interested in the free circulation of cryptocurrency, but this is clearly not what the current Putin regime wants. Therefore, despite various encouraging, but contradictory statements about cryptocurrencies, in Russia such laws have been adopted that actually prohibit the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.
In connection with the military defeat of Russia in Ukraine and the deterioration of the economic situation of Russia due to the imposed international sanctions, Russia will clearly no longer provide people with freedom in relation to cryptocurrencies. Now the concern of the authorities is to block the leakage of capital from the country, and the cryptocurrency will contribute to this.

Russia has already adopted a law on digital assets, according to which citizens can have cryptocurrency, but it is forbidden to use it as a means of payment. In general, a very tough authoritarian rule is now established in Russia, under which the authorities do not give a damn about the opinion of citizens. Due to the difficult economic situation in this country, they may well ban cryptocurrency there in order to avoid capital flight abroad. It is in democratic states that it is not possible to deal with such prohibitions. If in Russia for these violations they will be put in prison for 10-15 years or even shot, the situation will very quickly become controllable.

I think the ban will be soon if they don’t find a certain kind of regulator, after all, you shouldn’t forget that you can pay with cryptocurrency without any taxes and so on, I think that soon there will be some kind of ban or some over tax.

After the Russian regular army was practically defeated in Ukraine and Putin announced the mobilization to support the war in Ukraine, the Russians finally woke up and realized that the war would affect them too. Therefore, in the first few days, 361,000 Russians of military age left Russia abroad. Despite the fact that they are going to introduce a ban on leaving the country for persons of military age, people will still look for ways to leave the Russian Federation, and capital will also leave the country with them. Cryptocurrency is still a very good way not to transport large amounts of money across borders. The Russian authorities also understand this. Therefore, they are unlikely to legalize cryptocurrency.

I do not think that the outflow of money from the country and their transfer to cryptocurrency will dramatically affect it for the better. Stronger and longer-term fundamental catalysts are needed.

Russia is the largest investor base and blockchain project, I don't think it's possible for them to ban crypto in their country, especially at times like this their assets may be stored in crypto not in local banks
but you said in the border area, maybe this makes sense they forbid crypto-taxing

in my mind between the borders and the territory of the country is different ;D

In Russia, there are now global problems of a huge scale, which are associated with the survival of the state itself and are the result of an armed invasion of Ukraine. The cadre army of Russia is practically defeated in Ukraine, so Putin announced a general mobilization without restrictions on the number of mobilized and the time of mobilization. Seeing that this may not save Russia as a result of the brewing riots in Russia itself, Putin is now contemplating whether to use nuclear weapons. Therefore, there is definitely no time for cryptocurrency. If something happens, then rather a complete ban on cryptocurrencies, since they will try to reduce the outflow of capital from the country.

indeed all will say the same as you said, that it is very unlikely that Russia will ban crypto because we know that the use of crypto in Russia is very large and it is a necessity just like the others.
but Putin's decision to set prohibition rules, clear no one will dare to violate them because there will be sanctions that will occur.
but will this rule last forever? obviously not because after all Russia has known crypto for a long time and has become a very popular commodity.
Moreover, the embargo of European countries will also greatly affect and can make Russia will experience difficulties if there is no alternative transaction, but at this time Russia is very confident that they feel they are needed.

In Russia, the circulation of cryptocurrency and its use as a means of payment is prohibited at the level of the law. They repeatedly remind: their constitution establishes that the only means of payment on the territory of the Russian Federation is the ruble. I have not heard that in Russia they were going to change their constitution because of the cryptocurrency. The fact that in Russia citizens widely use cryptocurrency is true. But Putin has long given a damn about the opinion of his people. For him, the main problem now is the defeat of the Russian army in Ukraine, the offensive of the Ukrainians and the displacement of the invaders from Ukraine, as a result of which he can not only lose power, but also his worthless life. Therefore, if in Russia something changes for the better in relation to cryptocurrency, then it will not be under Putin.

There are several rumors in the market some says they will ban and some say they will regulate it but exactly we don't know what is going to happen in my opinion, if they want to ban cryptocurrencies they would do it a long time back so I think they will regulate it with some conditions. Rest it depends on the political approach of the ruling party if they consider it optimistically so we can expect some positive news from Russia.
yes, exactly political can have some amendments. But they will regulate it at the end.

So far, Russia has a law that prohibits the use of cryptocurrency as a means of payment. They refer to the fact that the Russian constitution states that the only means of payment in this country is the ruble, and they do not intend to change their constitution in this regard. They want to allow cryptocurrency mining, but it will be possible to sell it only outside of Russia. At the same time, cryptocurrency holders will have a lot of different responsibilities in relation to inspection and regulatory authorities. So far, this is one of the most stringent cryptocurrency regulations among civilized states. If Russia can be listed as a civilized state at all, given how it is now destroying Ukrainians.

Very crude and ill - conceived regulation .They just understand that mining is in a gray zone and people will still be engaged in it, and so at least they will be taxed.

Due to the military invasion of Ukraine and the imposed international sanctions, Russia is deprived of the opportunity to fully use dollars, euros, pound, and yen. This forced it to use more Chinese yuan and Indian rupees, as trade turnover increased in Russia with these countries. However, the liquidity of yuan and rupees turned out to be small and Russia now does not know what to do with them, since other states do not want to take them. At the same time, due to the war and sanctions, the demand for the Russian ruble also fell.

Russia could and would begin to use cryptocurrency in global trade, but this would require trading partners to also want it. But cryptocurrency is characterized by high price volatility and this prevents its use by states.

Russia's economic situation is now deteriorating at a rapid pace. Therefore, the Kremlin is interested in ensuring that capital does not leave the country. But if they allow free use of cryptocurrency there, the outflow of currency from Russia will increase. For this reason, it is unlikely that cryptocurrencies will be legalized in Russia.

Didn't they once make Bitcoin different for this country, Russia? But they also took it back later. So that means, in my opinion, they will not be able to do this now or even in the future, especially given the condition of their country. They know that bitcoin will help their country in this situation.

And this is probably what my fellow community members who are here in this crypto industry also see. But that still depends on the leader of Russia; of course, it depends on the beliefs of their leader; this is just my opinion.

Although it was part of very old news, nothing is being said about cryptocurrency in Russia at present. Russia will not ban bitcoin for now because banning bitcoin in Russia right now would depress the economy so much that the economy would not be able to handle the huge pressure of the war. Moreover, a certain part of the big investors are based in Russia, so the economic sanctions on the investors at the moment will have the possibility of causing huge damage to the Russian economy. So for now Russia is not going to take any legal action or ban on Bitcoin.

Exact. Considering the long period of time that has passed since the invasion of Ukraine, Russia needs all the funds possible to sustain itself, and that logically includes Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Otherwise, the Russian economy would be greatly affected, since it seems that international sanctions have not had the expected effect. In fact, I personally believe that Russia will never ban cryptocurrencies, neither when the invasion is over nor even if it receives more sanctions.

If I became president of Russia, then I would think about increasing the prices of necessities that are usually exported to other countries and, of course, only using Russian currency to buy what Russia has, while for other payment alternatives, perhaps you could use cryptocurrency, which is very suitable for transactions in the digital world.

In Russia, the use of cryptocurrency to pay for goods and services is prohibited, but its use as an investment asset is permitted.

At the beginning of 2022, the Central Bank advocated banning cryptocurrencies in Russia. The Ministry of Finance did not agree with the Central Bank. In April, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the Cabinet of Ministers is against recognizing cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov proposed recognizing cryptocurrencies as “the subject of criminal attacks.”

At the end of 2022, Russian Minister of Economy Anton Siluanov reported that his department was unable to reach an agreement with the Central Bank on the legalization and regulation of the circulation of cryptocurrencies. The position of the Central Bank remains unchanged - private money, including digital money, should not become a legal means of payment. In addition, the Constitution of the Russian Federation directly states that the only means of payment on the territory of the Russian Federation is the ruble.

According to the amendments of the Ministry of Finance, a citizen can be fined 200 thousand rubles for paying for goods in cryptocurrency, and a company can be fined 1 million rubles. A maximum sentence of 7 years in prison has been proposed for the illegal organization of a crypto exchange. True, I don’t know whether these amendments have been adopted or not.

There is no need to worry about digitalization in Russia because President Putin has already made a law for this matter, and this, of course, provides its own reinforcement, even though there are restrictions that are, of course, regulated too. They already know well about crypto, and there are quite a lot of enthusiasts and users of it in one of the largest user countries. Of course it will, but with a little nuance.
1. The ban on cryptocurrency will be for the POPULATION, but not for those in power. A totalitarian state always does this - "the law is for everyone, for their friends - complete freedom". Also, the ban for the population will be also because through cryptocurrency can finance human rights activists, the opposition. For a totalitarian regime - it is not allowed !
2. Cryptocurrency will be used for realization of corruption schemes, for example withdrawal of stolen funds from Russia, or withdrawal of stolen funds, for example in Ukraine Grain, museum exhibits, jewelry and other things that Russia and its terrorists now steal in Ukraine. Then sell it, and then... and then you have to get the money out somehow. And cryptocurrencies are becoming a convenient means to do that.

I assume that the tightening of the rights of crypto exchanges, hard pressure on mixers - this is also related to monitoring and detection of these criminal funds.

The Indian Parliament has imposed a 30% tax on cryptocurrencies but very recently the Indian government and central bank have banned central exchanges of cryptocurrencies. However, this has not affected the cryptocurrency. Just in case the Russian government wants to ban Bitcoin, I don't think it will have any negative impact on Bitcoin. There may be some negative impact on the Bitcoin market for some time but it is not likely to last long. There is no reason to worry if Russia sub-bans Bitcoin.

You do not take into account the fact that Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for almost two years. Moreover, she is bogged down in this war and hopes for its quick and positive end for Russia are fading every day. As a result of international sanctions and catastrophic war costs, its economy is rapidly declining and far-sighted Russians are trying to take out their capital even before the expected catastrophe. Under these conditions, the Kremlin will try to prevent this and the ban on the use of cryptocurrency will be one of the mechanisms to prevent the flight of capital from the country.

In my opinion, the discussion is very complicated because Russia is currently in conflict with Ukraine, where when a conflict occurs it requires money, food, defense equipment and various resources needed for war.
Banning cryptocurrency by the Russian state is the same as prohibiting resource assistance to the Russian state and this, if we think positively, must be able to open the eyes of our hearts so that a cryptocurrency ban does not occur.
The result of my discussion is: The Russian state will not ban cryptocurrency but may only impose limitations on its use because cryptocurrency does not have a stable coin price basis and if it is used by ordinary people, the Russian state will experience a decrease in funds (if the coin price falls).

Let me clarify with facts:
1. Russia has no conflict with Ukraine. Russia has committed a terrorist attack on my country, occupied several regions, destroyed hundreds of towns and villages and over 100,000 civilians. This is called aggression, war and terrorist act committed by a state.
2. In 2022, the international criminal Punin V.V., signed a law that explicitly prohibits the use of digital financial assets (DFA) and utilitarian digital rights (UCR) as a means of payment in Russia.
3. The State Duma approved in the third and final reading a law banning the use of digital financial assets as a means of payment in Russia. Until now, the legislation did not explicitly prohibit such transactions
The State Duma has passed in the third and final reading a law banning the use of digital financial assets (DFA) and partially utilized digital rights (UCR) as a means of payment in Russia. This follows from the bill's card in the Duma's database.

Maybe currently cryptocurrencies are prohibited in Russia, but it is normal for a country to ban cryptocurrencies because if cryptocurrencies are allowed in a country it will reduce that country's currency, but if that country makes an agreement with cryptocurrencies or a technology discussion, maybe the country This will allow crypto development in the country.
I think cryptocurrencies are good if they develop in countries because they have sophisticated technology and even transactions using crypto are very fast.

The Russian ruble is already one of the "leaders" in terms of depreciation in 2023, if I may say so. And this is not a manifestation of the influence of cryptocurrency, it is a matter of politics and psychiatry :)

But bans in Russia are of a completely different nature - it is an attempt to minimize the risks of financing the opposition, as well as stifling the financial freedoms of Russian citizens, because the state has built a purely totalitarian state of kleptomaniacs in power. Therefore, bans on any freedoms, including financial ones, have been, are and will be. At least the population will not be given the opportunity to be at least a little independent and uncontrolled by the state.

At the same time, for attempts to circumvent sanctions - yes, it may be used, but only at the level of the state, and only for the closest circle of the "club of kleptomaniacs"
