I find it stupid to take loans on things that are so much needed and arent life changers in general. On the scale of borrowing money to gamble can be put buying latest mobile phones on credit. New models comes with so little updates, that 2-3 years old phone are almost the same. Imo it is more right to rely only on own money money. And early in the morning, the following day, he come again that he wants to sell his solar system so he can used the money to settle some debt. And I bought it from him as a cheaper price. And I was not comfortable with it so I called him to come in the evening and asked why he sold the solar and he told me that he sold it to pay some gambling debt. And I gave him some advice. And we depart.

What I think for this guy to stop his gambling habit is that he needs to know about gambling, he needs to budget his income for gambling, he can't be greedy for gambling, he can't go into debt for his gambling. Gambling should be taken as pure entertainment. If the person mentioned by the OP can follow all these gambling tricks then he can avoid going into debt. Debt is a bad thing that leads people to debt. There are many gamblers around us who have ruined their lives by gambling. So every gambler should keep in mind that gambling should never be used outside of entertainment and should not be too greedy. Greed is very dominant in people. The main problem of most people today is how to get rich in a short period. For this many people take many different methods like your neighbor took the gambling route. Your neighbor is so addicted to gambling that he pawns his mobile phone to you. If a person becomes addicted to drugs, it becomes very difficult to bring him back from it So did your neighbor.  Of course, your neighbor is attracted to gambling and it will be very difficult to get him out.
