actually the wallet can be safe if we really take care of it and be careful of scammer or phishing links, except for the wallet in exchange I don't like it / don't believe it. I use several different wallet platforms like erc20-MEW, waves-wavesplatform, eos-eoslynx, stellar-lobstr until now are still safe

I think the dominant altcoin is currently using the erc20 platform. depending on the type of coin. I currently use the MEW and wallet app on my smartphone.

I use myetherwallet for my ERC20 tokens. However I don't access my tokens through mew website.
I use metamask to access my tokens because it is more secure. I use brave browser extension to login metamask

i'm recomend you for using Atomic Wallet for many altcoin wallet, not just for Ethereum ERC-20 Token can be store but another altcoin can stored on this wallet Zcash, Eos, ADA, Litecoin, XLM, and etc and of course that's decentralized wallet

I do not trust any of the multi-currency wallets. Of those purses that I know, praise Jaxx and Atomic. They did not use them themselves, but I would like to hear reviews of users who use them. If you need wallets for ETH and ERC20 tokens here I can recommend MEW wallet

I tried downloading the Atomic wallet application, yes it looks good easily I can see Binance tokens but for Platform ERC 20 tokens I use MEW.
I think there is no best wallet, all online wallets can be easily hacked.

However here, the online wallets are still the same, they have higher risks to be hacked. If you want the secure one, choose the hardware wallet for your coins. they are safer, but rather expensive.

I have to know what altcoin you have, there are many crypto wallets that you can have now, but I advise you to use Ledger Nano S or Trezor, with this your altcoin will be safe, but you still have to be careful when using it. the advantage of a hardware wallet is that it can detect phishing sites

There are lots of wallets out there, for the ERC20 tokens, the best is MyEtherwallet, best for altcoins storage. First thing first, the coin you want to store, you should be aware if it is ERC20 compactable, otherwise, it can't be stored in MyEtherwallet account.

Of course, it depends on what kind of altcoin you hold. Different altcoin type will need a different wallet. For example, the ERC20 tokens are better with MEW as an online wallet. Keep the private key or keystore privately and securely. And so doe the other altcoins with a certain type of platform likely lumens, their own coins and others. But of course, the best wallet may be the hardware one.
