Title: Think Amazon will develop there own token for payments
Post by: Gabearooo on January 25, 2018, 08:13:46 AM
Was wondering if anyone thinks Amazon would create there own cryptocurrency for payments. With the continuing growth of Amazon and growth in new areas it seems like a no brainer to either start accepting other crypto or add one of there own to the growing list of coins.

Well, Amazon has Paypal. And I think their business don't need tokenizing right now.
And not shure that they will setup their own token. Maybe joining to Hyperledger or Ripple is a good idea for them

Good question, point is, is it more profitable for such a big companies create their own token or join an existing one?

They might, online shopping platform in China like taobao has their own token (although it is not really a crypto currency) so I can see that Amazon can do the same in the future.

Only time would tell. But I think they'll do so.

Of course, they will develop or adapt existing one. there is no doubt about this. blockchain technology is taking market by market over. I think this is unstoppable because is better cheaper, safer and faster as FIAT money or even any new no money bank transfers.

Paypal is part ot the Ebay group. For this reason you can't use it on Amazon.

Tough to say but if they did it makes a lot of sense.. an amazon token even at ICO price would be 100s if not thousands each at Bitcoin's supply levels.. its hard to imagine they wouldn't double dip on the success of not only providing the products but providing its own currency too.. I don't think we'll see this in the next year, but I'm sure the conversations have surely started by now.. its just a matter of when.

I think so, makes more sense than using Bitcoin or some other "less controllable" cryptocurrency.
I'd expect some centralized model similar to Ripple, or just XRP.

It may happen. I just don't think it's gonna happen soon. If syscoin's blockmarket web and app becomes more popular, it could force amazon to develop their own.

I think the development of a coin is not out of the question, but the incentive isn'tn there yet, since the adoption of coins is not yet really at the level of making it a huge profit item for them, especially when you consider that they have their Credit Card, which makes it much more attractive to them to marjet and push that, and not a coin.

The driving forcer will be the inertia and acceptance of coins and tokens being inevitable, and they will likely adopt a model where they take a few of the most popular coins, to get that huge segmentof the market to use Amazon Prime and be part of the many7 tentacled beast Amazon would love to become.

Developing their own coin might not be out of place in the long run, but I think this will require some logical justification probably as a means to carve a niche in the crypto space position itself for mass adoption. In the short term Amazon might have to consider the cost of setting up it's on coins/blockchain versus the immediate benefits.
