MEW is best choice now. You also need to try another wallet to compare ethereum wallet. There is  metamask, imtoken, coinomi, eidoo

The only drawback that I can see with MEW are the phishing sites. So the solution is to bookmark the site and to only use the bookmark when you open the wallet. And lets not forget that if you only want to view the balance of the wallet you can always use etherscan.
Speaking of security - I will never use a desktop wallet. You just never know what are you installing on your pc/laptop. If I were looking to get the info of some users. I will make legitimate desktop wallet which collect the info and then send it by email or upload it to some random site.

Majority of Newbies says that MyEtherWallet is so sensitive. But I'll go for MyEtherWallet anyways. There's some specs of MEW that I like. 🤔
